RETHINK MANUFACTURING
The only way to ignite change is to build the best team. At Bright Machines®, we’re innovators and experts in our craft who have joined together to create a new category of manufacturing that will help transform the industry. We believe software and data are the answer, thoughtfully applied to solve our customers’ unique challenges. Through intelligent automation, we give factories newfound flexibility, scalability, and resilience. We deliver products to meet the demands of today while building a platform to take advantage of what comes next.
Working with us means you’ll have the opportunity to make lasting, impactful changes for our company and our customers. If you’re ready to apply your exceptional skills to create the factory of the future, we’d love to speak with you.
ABOUT THE ROLEAt Bright Machines, we're re-imagining the future of manufacturing through intelligent automation, using cutting-edge AI to shape the factories of the future.
As a Machine Learning Intern, you'll focus on the evaluation and testing of robotic foundation models, helping bridge the gap between advanced AI and real-world manufacturing. This internship offers a hands-on opportunity to explore how foundation models can enhance robotic perception, reasoning, and control, and to rigorously test their capabilities in complex industrial environments.

WHAT YOU WILL BE DOING

  • Designing and executing experiments to evaluate the performance of foundation models in robotic tasks (e.g., manipulation, vision, motion planning).
  • Benchmarking model outputs across tasks such as object recognition, grasp prediction, semantic understanding, and trajectory generation.
  • Contributing to model fine-tuning or prompt engineering strategies to adapt general-purpose models to robotics-specific contexts.
  • Collaborating with cross-functional teams (ML, robotics, software, and systems) to integrate and validate models in simulation and on physical robots.
  • Documenting results, identifying failure modes, and proposing improvements for robustness and generalization.

WHAT WE WANT TO SEE

  • Currently pursuing a Master's degree in Machine Learning, Robotics, Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a closely related field.
  • Solid understanding of foundation models (e.g., large vision-language models, transformer architectures) and their limitations.
  • Proficiency in Python and experience with machine learning frameworks such as PyTorch or TensorFlow.
  • Experience working with robotics systems, simulators (e.g., Nvidia Omniverse, Gazebo, Isaac Gym, ...)
  • Strong skills in experimental design, data analysis, and communicating technical results through reports and visualizations.

WHAT WE WOULD LIKE TO SEE

  • Familiarity with Robot vision-language models and/or generative models used in robotics contexts.
  • Experience in testing or bench marking AI systems in safety-critical or real-world environments.
  • Prior work on robotic perception, control, or human-robot interaction using deep learning techniques.
  • Exposure to multi-modal datasets and their application in robotic tasks.
  • Contributions to open-source ML or robotics projects, or relevant publications.

WHO YOU ARE

  • You are customer obsessed
  • You drive for results, and act like an owner
  • You believe in the power of a team, diversity of thought, and unity of action
  • You always act with integrity, keep your commitments, and practice transparency
  • You think boldly, lead with courage, and demand the highest standards
