JOB DESCRIPTION AND POSITION REQUIREMENTS

The Department of Meteorology and Assistant Professor Colin Zarzycki are seeking applicants for part-time job of Research Assistant. This position supports a scientific researcher to work on projects at the intersection of climate science and data science. The successful candidate will:

Job duties to include:

• Clean, organize, and manage Earth system model data for internal analysis and public release
• Apply machine learning techniques, particularly self-organizing maps, to identify and understand large-scale patterns associated with freezing rain in the eastern U.S.
• Write and contribute to peer-reviewed scientific publications
• Develop, document, and maintain clean, well-organized code for data processing and analysis workflows

Requirements, qualifications, and/or competencies:

• Ideal candidates will have prior experience with Python, Earth system datasets, and machine learning methods, along with strong scientific communication skills

Compensation:

The starting rate for this job is $27.00/hr.
