We are seeking a Senior Staff Data Scientist with profound expertise to drive the direction and vision of a major data science initiative. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of machine learning, AI, and data science, with a proven track record of designing and developing complex AI solutions that scale. This role requires exceptional leadership skills to mentor senior data scientists and work closely with executive leadership. You will lead innovation, set technical direction, and help establish high-impact AI solutions aligned with our business goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Drive the Direction and Vision of a Major DS Initiative: Lead and define the technical direction for a significant data science initiative, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and delivering transformative AI solutions at scale.
Identify High-Impact Opportunities: Discover business opportunities through in-depth research, data exploration, and collaboration with executive leadership to align on strategic initiatives and high-value projects.
Development & Productionization: Spearhead the development and productionization of machine learning models, from concept to deployment. Ensure that models are scalable, reliable, and optimized for performance in real-time and batch systems.
Establish Robust ROI Measurement Mechanisms: Develop and implement mechanisms to measure ROI on AI/ML initiatives, including setting up experimentation frameworks to evaluate system capabilities and performance.
Innovation & Research Intergration: Keep up with the cutting-edge research and industry development; Experiment and prototype research findings to enhance model performance and business impact
Cross-functional Collaboration: Drive collaboration across AI, Engineering, Product, and Design teams to integrate data-driven decision-making and advanced AI capabilities into the organization’s products and services.
Mentorship and Guidance: Mentor senior data scientists, set technical standards, promote best practices, and ensure thorough documentation. Provide coaching to help the team grow both technically and professionally, fostering an environment of continuous learning and improvement.
Presentations and Engagement: Regularly present to executive leadership and cross-functional teams, delivering impactful executive-level presentations to secure buy-in and alignment on AI/ML initiatives.
Business Strategy Alignment & Resource Allocation: Align AI/ML efforts with business strategy and resource allocation. Provide guidance on the prioritization of AI/ML projects to maximize impact and drive business value.
Technical Direction & Innovation: Lead and provide senior-level technical direction across teams. Promote innovative AI/ML solutions that push the boundaries of what’s possible, generating excitement and buy-in from technical and non-technical stakeholders.
Problem Identification & Solution Development: Identify complex company-wide challenges and opportunities for AI/ML solutions. Lead the development of prototypes or MVPs that can evolve into impactful, scalable solutions.
Strategic and Cultural Leadership: Contribute to the overarching strategy, roadmap, and vision for the AI/ML organization. Foster a culture of craftsmanship, innovation, and excellence, promoting best practices across the team and ensuring high-quality solutions.
Qualifications:
B.Sc. in AI/ML, Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, or a related quantitative field
Minimum of 10 years of experience in data science, machine learning, or AI, with a proven track record of leading end-to-end model development cycle and delivering impactful projects
Profound experience and theoretical understanding of advanced quantitative methods in statistical, machine learning and deep learning.
Demonstrated ability to lead and mentor senior data scientists, fostering a collaborative environment for technical growth
Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to influence stakeholders and deliver executive-level presentations and documentation
Extensive experience with SQL, Python, and machine learning frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, Scikit-learn)
Significant experience with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Microsoft Azure, Databricks, Kubernetes)
Ability to solve complex technical challenges and create long-term strategic visions for AI/ML teams
Preferred Skills:
Strong background in experimentation, causal inference, and counter-factual modeling
Experience in advanced modeling techniques, including numerical optimization algorithms, natural language processing (NLP), large language models (LLM) and reinforcement learning
Research experience in computer science, statistics, machine learning and operational research, or a related field
Strong leadership skills and the ability to manage cross-functional teams with a strategic mindset
Advanced degree (M.Sc., Ph.D.) in a related field is a plus.
