ASU Enterprise Partners through its five nonprofits invests in initiatives and partnerships that provide resources to Arizona State University.In the role of Student Assistant – Data Science at ASU Enterprise Partners, you will contribute to the development and productionization of prescriptive and predictive data products. These may include data analyses, dashboards, predictive models, queries, model deployments, and applications of large language models (LLMs). Drawing on your foundation in developing new capabilities and generating valuable insights, you will help uncover patterns in complex datasets and integrate practical solutions into our systems.
Your work will focus on the creation of business value through applied solutions that drive meaningful change. Depending on your interests and experience, you may engage in data exploration, experimentation, and product development, or concentrate on operationalizing these solutions to ensure their effectiveness, scalability, and impact. As a key member of the Applied Data Science and Analytics (ADSA) team, you will collaborate closely with others to align efforts with business goals and deliver measurable value to stakeholders.

This position will require approximately 20 hours per week.
This position is also approved by ASU ISSC for On-campus employment.
What you’ll do
- Data Product Contribution: Support the development and productionization of prescriptive and predictive data products, including analyses, dashboards, models, queries, and LLM-based applications.
- Data Exploration & Experimentation: Explore complex datasets and conduct experiments to uncover insights and inform novel approaches to decision-making.
- Applied Solution Design: Contribute to the design and implementation of data-driven solutions that create measurable business value and drive change.
- Operationalization: Assist in deploying and integrating data products into production environments, ensuring they are scalable, reliable, and actionable.
- Collaboration: Partner with members of the ADSA team to ensure alignment with business goals and stakeholder needs.
- Technology Utilization: Use tools such as BigQuery, BigQuery ML, Python, Vertex AI, and Colab Enterprise throughout the data product lifecycle.
- Monitoring & Iteration: Help monitor solution performance and support continuous improvement based on feedback and evolving requirements.
- Communication: Clearly communicate findings, progress, and recommendations through reports, visualizations, and presentations.
What you'll need
Technical Familiarity: Exposure to data science tools and programming languages such as Python, SQL, and notebooks (e.g., Jupyter, Colab).
Applied Data Science Knowledge: Understanding of core data science techniques such as regression, classification, boosting, and deep learning, with an emphasis on their practical application.
Deployment Awareness: Familiarity with concepts related to deploying data products, including input/output requirements, MLOps or DevOps practices, and cloud computing environments.
Analytical Thinking: Ability to explore and interpret complex datasets, identify patterns, and contribute to experimentation and insight generation.
Problem Solving: Demonstrated ability to approach challenges with creativity, critical thinking, and a willingness to learn new tools and concepts quickly.
Quantitative Reasoning: Comfort working with quantitative data and applying statistical or computational methods to real-world problems.
Communication Skills: Ability to communicate technical findings and recommendations clearly and effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
Collaboration: Willingness to work as part of a team, contribute to shared goals, and engage with feedback in a constructive and iterative way.
Relevant qualifications
Currently enrolled in a Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Graduate program at Arizona State University in a quantitative or technical discipline, such as Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematics, Economics, Physics, Neuroscience, or a related field.
Has completed relevant coursework in areas such as statistics, data analysis, programming, machine learning, or related topics that support applied data science work.
Preferred education and experience
- Completion of an internship or project-based experience in a relevant area such as data science, data analytics, data engineering, or machine learning engineering.
- Experience with deploying data solutions, preferably using cloud-based platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP), Amazon Web Services (AWS), or Microsoft Azure.
Preferred skills and abilities
- Familiarity with Google Cloud Platform (GCP) tools relevant to data science workflows, such as BigQuery ML, Vertex AI, Dataflow, Workflows, Vertex AI Model Monitoring, and Colab Enterprise.
- Understanding of Google Analytics 4 (GA4) data and its application in marketing or business intelligence contexts.
- Comfort working in cloud-based environments and integrating tools across platforms to support scalable, production-ready data solutions.
- Interest in exploring and applying emerging technologies (e.g., LLMs, automated workflows) to real-world problems.
