A Little About Us: 

The Yahoo! Consumer Data Team manages a petabyte warehouse to glean insights on Yahoo Media products and to improve the experience for its massive user base. The team interacts and works across multiple organizations at yahoo to grow user engagement and user experience across yahoo's product portfolio. Your work will directly influence product changes and you will work with some of the brightest engineers you have known to improve the user experience on yahoo properties and contribute to company growth. Along the way, you will solve problems for an Internet Pioneer that is hard to match in the industry.
 

Summary:

As a Senior Principal Data Engineer specializing in data governance on Google Cloud Platform (GCP), you will lead the development and execution of data governance frameworks, ensuring data quality, security, and compliance across the organization’s cloud data assets. You will drive the implementation of policies, processes, and best practices that enable effective data management, collaborating with cross-functional teams to align data governance with business objectives and regulatory requirements.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop, implement, and maintain data governance frameworks, policies, and standards for GCP-based data assets, ensuring alignment with business goals and regulatory requirements.

  • Oversee data quality, security, privacy, lifecycle management, access controls, and standardization across all GCP data environments.

  • Coordinate and collaborate with data stewards, custodians, owners, and business stakeholders to drive adoption of data governance practices and resolve data-related issues.

  • Monitor compliance with data governance policies and manage risk related to data usage, security, and privacy.

  • Lead metadata management initiatives, including data cataloging, lineage, and documentation to enhance discoverability and transparency of GCP data assets.

  • Provide training, guidance, and communication on data governance best practices to technical and non-technical teams.

  • Act as a liaison between executive leadership and operational teams, translating business needs into technical data governance solutions.

  • Continuously evaluate and improve data governance processes, leveraging GCP’s built-in governance capabilities.

  • Prepare and present reports on data governance status, compliance, and value to senior leadership.

Qualifications:

  • BS or MS in Computer Science or a related major, or equivalent experience

  • 10+ years extensive experience in data engineering, with a focus on data governance, quality, and compliance, including hands-on expertise with GCP data services.

  • Deep understanding of data governance frameworks, regulatory compliance (e.g., GDPR, CCPA), and cloud data security best practices.

  • Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional initiatives and influence stakeholders at all levels.

  • Strong technical skills in GCP data tools (BigQuery, Dataflow, Cloud Storage) and metadata management.

  • Excellent communication, documentation, and leadership skills.

The compensation for this position ranges from $160,965.00 - $349,885.00/yr and will vary depending on factors such as your location, skills and experience.The compensation package may also include incentive compensation opportunities in the form of discretionary annual bonus or commissions.
