Ohio Technology Consortium (OH-TECH) Shared Infrastructure seeks a detail-oriented, thorough, and organized Tableau developer to join our team as a Senior BI Developer. The Senior BI Developer will work closely with business teams, data analysts, data architects, and IT leaders to provide analytical and technical support for all Ohio Department of Higher Education (ODHE) business intelligence activities. The candidate will work through the data pipeline: from ingestion of data to producing interactive visualizations to troubleshooting issues with existing pipelines and dashboards. Candidate must work well in a team environment and be able to partner with both business and technical team members translating technical language to the non-technical need.

The Shared Infrastructure team provides enterprise-level support to their customers, encompassing a diverse array of services that cater to advanced data management requirements. Offerings include a highly secure data infrastructure designed to protect sensitive information and ensure reliable data accessibility. Additionally, the team provides comprehensive data backup and recovery services, ensuring data integrity and availability in case of any disruptions. Specific tools used for data management include Tableau for data visualization and Informatica for data integration.

Responsibilities of the position include:

  • Supports, administers, and governs analytics platform (Tableau)

  • Mentors junior BI developers

  • Teaches and advocates the use of business intelligence tools across levels of the organization

  • Collaborates with stakeholders to gather requirements and understand data visualization needs

  • Provides feedback and recommendations to data experts on the best way to tell the data's story

  • Creates, supports, and maintains interactive visualizations using Tableau Desktop for initiatives to transition data reporting into Tableau from other platforms with focus on optimization for performance and usability. Keeps up-to-date with best practice and new features.

  • Converts and modifies, with minimal assistance, SQL queries to convey the appropriate message to business owners

  • Creates, supports, maintains pipelines to varying destinations supporting data reporting projects and visualizations

  • Maintains and improves business intelligence development, data governance, and data quality standards

  • Creates written communication materials that effectively summarize findings and support recommendations

Required Education/Experience:

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, data science, statistics, or related field or an equivalent combination of education and experience

  • 4 years' experience in building dashboards and reports using Tableau Desktop, including complex calculations, parameters, and filters

  • 4 years’ experience designing and developing data models, including relationships, hierarchies, and calculated columns to support business intelligence solutions

  • Experience with SQL for data extraction and manipulation

  • Proven experience manipulating large and complex data sets

  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills

  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies

Desired Education/Experience:

  • Advanced degree in computer science, data science, statistics, or related field

  • Tableau Desktop certification at an advanced level

  • Proven experience building analytical models in Tableau Desktop

  • Experience with ETL toolsets supporting data pipelines

  • Experience with other BI tools (e.g., Power BI)

  • Experience with Atlassian Jira/Confluence toolsets
