Position Summary:

The Director of Data Engineering will spearhead the end-to-end design, development, and optimization of a new healthcare data infrastructure, ensuring seamless operations, advanced analytics, and robust reporting solutions in a dynamic, high-growth environment.

Qualifications: Education, Licensure and Certifications, Related Work Experience

  • Degree in computer science, engineering, or related field.
  • 8+ years of experience in data engineering, with at least 3 years in a leadership or managerial role designing, architecting, and implementing data warehouses.
  • Prior exposure to a high-growth or startup healthcare environment.

Other specialized skills and knowledge necessary to perform this job. (e.g., basic accounting principles, computer skills and software, specific healthcare processes, interpersonal, communication, etc.

Hands-on experience using Snowflake, SQL, Python, dbt with healthcare data systems (e.g., HL7, FHIR, EHRs, claims, risk adjustment) and common EHR and medical claim / administrative workflows.

Works collaboratively in a fast-paced, unstructured environment, managing competing deadlines, and adapting to evolving responsibilities.

Strong understanding of healthcare regulatory requirements (HIPAA, PHI handling).

Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

 

Essential Job Duties/Responsibilities

1.

Design the strategy, development, and maintenance of a scalable healthcare data platform and deliver high-impact data solutions that generate actionable business and clinical insights.

2.

Influence data strategy and infrastructure by understanding business goals, defining project scope, planned milestones, success criteria and change management considerations.

3.

Architect and orchestrate robust data pipelines (ETL/ELT) sourced via API FHIR, HL7 from CMS, HIEs, EHRs, payers, labs, etc.

4.

Optimize data models, storage, and query performance using cloud technologies (Snowflake, Azure).

5.

Establish robust frameworks and mindset around data governance, code standardization/documentation, testing/alerting, as well as adherence to industry regulations for security/privacy.

6.

Ensure seamless ingestion, transformation, and storage of healthcare data from multiple sources.

7.

Implement rigorous data validation processes to maintain accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

8.

Develop automated workflows for data ingestion, cleansing, and reporting to improve efficiency and reduce manual intervention.

9.

Strengthen data security protocols to protect sensitive patient information.

10.

Other related duties as assigned.
