The Boeing CompanyThe Boeing Defense, Space and Security (BDS), Space and Launch Division, is seeking a Associate Spacecraft Vehicle Engineer (Level 2) to join our team in Chantilly, VA. The Space and Launch Team creates the next generation products and services for the BDS business unit. We work with proprietary customers in the development of the next-generation technologies in space. Our team focuses on rapid prototyping to demonstrate a host of mission-focused technologies for a variety of customers. Our group works all facets of engineering from technology investment, concept development, proposal writing, requirements and design, build, integration, test, and demonstration of products in their relevant environments.
Position Overview:
The Spacecraft Vehicle Engineer will be a part of a high-performing team that is immersed in high intensity projects. As a member of our team, you will have the opportunity to serve as a focal point for ensuring spacecraft safety of flight and coordination between contractor and government operations teams. This role will support daily operations in the end to end technical management of a spacecraft mission and/or to support vulnerability assessments of a spacecraft mission. This position will provide on-site operational support and oversight, and implementation guidance for safe mission operations and special test activities. This role involves ensuring long-term activities are planned and coordinated across wide community of government and civilian spacecraft.
Responsibilities for this position include:
Providing daily oversight of vehicle subsystem functionality
Resolving cross-functional technical issues
Reviewing operational logs and addressing concerns
Reviewing daily trend plots
Reviewing limit checks across subsystems
Supporting factory and customer requests for specific monitoring or activities
Coordinating implementation of Boeing Factory Recommendations
Coordinating technical issue resolutions with local and factory experts
Conducting review(s) and closure(s) of discrepancy reports
Providing support to a daily Site- Factory interface meeting
Developing scripts and tools with Perl, Python, Matlab, Excel/VBA, etc
Authoring and updating multiple types of documentation
Maintaining knowledge of vehicle contingency procedures
Maintaining current workarounds and memograms (operational directives)
Maintaining/updating vehicle databases as required
Supporting memogram development, providing oversight to anomaly resolution from the system perspective
Supporting calibration activities as required
Reviewing and reporting trend analysis
Supporting deployments to contingency command and control facilities
Providing weekly and monthly status of vehicle performance
Providing vehicle payload specific briefings and written reports as required
Supporting special Systems Engineering tests and transition related activities
This position requires an Active TS/SCI U.S. Security Clearance with a CI Polygraph pre-start. (A U.S. Security Clearance that has been active in the past 24 months is considered active.).
This position is 100% onsite.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
Bachelor of Science degree from an accredited course of study in engineering, engineering technology (includes manufacturing engineering technology), chemistry, physics, mathematics, data science, or computer science
Typically 2 or more years' related work experience or an equivalent combination of technical education and experience or non-US equivalent qualifications
2 years or more of experience in space systems.
Ability to successfully complete the Space Vehicle Certification program which requires a combination of self-study and on-the-job (OJT) training.
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
Prior military service or experience in national space programs.
Experience or knowledge in working directly with aerospace vehicles.
Experience or knowledge of orbital mechanics and/or collision avoidance maneuver planning and satellite orbit operations analysis.
Experience or knowledge of laser or optical engineering/analysis and/or nuclear effects and impacts to space assets.
Experience with RF engineering and de-confliction analysis including RF interference, spectrum protection and mitigation planning.
