Data Engineer (Azure, GIS)

We currently have a vacancy for a Data Engineer (Azure, GIS) fluent in English, to offer his/her services as an expert who will be based in Brussels, Belgium. The work will be carried out either in the company’s premises or on site at customer premises. In the context of the first assignment, the successful candidate will be integrated in the Development team of the company that will closely cooperate with a major client’s IT team on site

Your Tasks

• Develop, deploy, and maintain scalable data pipelines from REST APIs using Python, SQL, and ETL tools (Azure Synapse) to ingest, transform, and prepare data;
• Process and transform complex JSON and GIS data into structured datasets optimized for analysis and reporting, including parsing, transforming, and validating JSON data to ensure data quality and consistency;
• Load and organize processed data into cloud-based Azure Data Lake storage ensuring accessibility and performance and document ETL processes, metadata definitions, data lineage, and technical specifications;
• Collaborate with data analysts, BI developers, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and deliver reliable, well-documented datasets aligned with organizational needs;
• Implement data quality checks, logging, and monitoring within data pipelines to support maintainability and troubleshooting.

Requirements

• University degree in Computer Science and/or Software Engineering, combined with a minimum of 15 years of relevant working experience in IT;
• Minimum 5 years of experience with Azure data lake storage and Oracle databases;
• Minimum 5 years of experience in developing data pipelines from REST APIs and on integration, such as Python, Azure Synapse Analytics and SQL;
• Minimum 5 years of experience in processing JSON and GIS data;
• Ability to implement robust data quality checks, logging, and monitoring in ETL processes;
• Ability to document ETL workflows, metadata, and technical specifications clearly and consistently;
• Experience with DevOps and version control best practices and CI/CD pipelines;
• Certification in Microsoft Azure Data Engineer Associate is required;
• Certifications such as Microsoft Azure Solutions Architect Expert, Microsoft Azure Developer Associate and Microsoft Azure Database Administrator Associate would be considered an asset;
• Excellent command of the English language.
