The Data Product Owner Director role is responsible for understanding, prioritizing, and managing delivery of data requests including business-generated requests and internal improvement items. The position is responsible for understanding cross-team dependencies and escalating issues to ensure timely hand-offs to meet delivery commitments. The position is also the Data Organization’s primary planner and facilitator for quarterly Program Increment Planning sessions. This is an individual contributor position with no personnel responsibilities.  

Responsibilities

• Program Increment (PI) Planning Leadership

  • Lead PI preparation including soliciting priorities from business teams, assessing team capacity, planning and mapping cross-team dependencies and timing, applying prioritization decisions, and completing a recommendation for PI commitments

  • Facilitate PI Planning break-out sessions including detailed discussions with stakeholders and Data team leadership to finalize PI commitments

  • Work with Data team leaders to reorganize or adjust staffing and team structure 

•   Stakeholder Management 

  • Partners with business stakeholders to analyze, define and document business requirements & process models for new requirements

  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate both technical and non-technical issues and resolve problems at all levels of the organization both internally and externally no matter the complexity.

• Delivery and Process Oversight

  • Review intake of all data requests ensuring deep understanding of the delivery requirements, responsibilities of each data team, and outside dependencies

  • Challenge assumptions and estimates of the delivery teams to ensure accurate planning and aggressive delivery

  • Determine and monitor team velocity and assessing point capacity for Program Increment (PI) Planning 

  • Actively participate agile ceremonies for each Data Team including daily scrum and sprint planning to ensure timely hand-offs and delivery against PI commitments

  • Coordinate a scrum-of-scrums with scrum masters and Data Team leaders to adjust priorities and maintain schedule for commitments

  • Defining production releases including defining release type based on risk and revising Release announcements for business clarity

  • Create, manage and maintain Jira backlogs and Jira dashboards

  • Ability to handle multiple priorities and meet aggressive deadlines  

• Vendor Management 

  • Assist vendor leads with backlog management, prioritization & managing deliverables ensuring commitments are met and risks/issues are raised in a timely manner

  • Ensure vendor aligns to Zayo architecture patterns and recommended best practices while ensuring quality deliverables

Qualifications

• 10+ years of experience in a product ownership role is required

• 5 or more years of experience working in Agile Methodologies including the Scaled Agile Framework (SAFe)

• 5 or more years of experience working within analytic Data teams (data warehousing, reporting, analytics)

• Demonstrated experience using Jira for work effort management

• Demonstrated experience using LUCID or other workflow, whiteboard applications

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Information Systems or similar (STEM) or related experience in lieu of education is required 

• The ability to collaborate across functional groups.  

• The ability to communicate effectively at all levels of the organization.  

• Prior experience with data migration/integration efforts  

Estimated Base Salary Range: $147,800 - $180,600 USD/annually.

The base pay range shown is a guideline and reasonable estimate for this role. It takes into account the wide variety of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions. Actual compensation offered may vary from the posted range based upon geographic location, work experience, skill level, certifications, and other business and organizational needs. Non- sales roles may be eligible to participate in a discretionary annual incentive plan. Sales roles may be eligible to participate in a sales incentive plan.

Additionally, this position may be eligible for certain benefits, such as health insurance, life insurance, disability retirement plans, paid time off.
