Base pay is influenced by several factors including a candidate’s qualifications, relevant experience, and anticipated contributions to meet the needs of the business, along with internal pay equity and external market driven rates. The salary range displayed has not been adjusted for geographical location. We are a new group inside Capital BlueCross specializing in healthcare data analytics and preventive medicine. Due to growth, we are looking to build out our Product Development team and need a Data Scientist to join our team. If you are strong with Machine Learning, Predictive Modeling, Data Analytics, and you have a background working with Algorithm Development using SAS, R, or Python, we would love to meet with you. We are looking to fix some fundamental problems in the healthcare industry. You will leverage our proprietary dataset and connections to a large set of claims, hospital system and consumer data to quickly create huge financial and societal benefit, while building a cutting-edge data science skillset on a world-class analytics team
Responsibilities and Qualifications
- Responsible for the successful delivery of the design, development and implementation of machine learning and predictive models on the cost, utilization and quality trends relative to product, program, network, benefit design, employer group, etc. and the communication of this information to key internal and external stakeholders.
- Ensures that rigorous research design, comprehensive data collection and sound statistical methods are applied to the cost and utilization forecast, population management, internal and vendor programs, and corporate projects.
- Assessment and identification of cost and utilization reduction opportunities through collaboration with leadership and advisory boards.
- Provide guidance and support for project implementations within the appropriate Capital BlueCross area including processes to track cost, utilization and outcomes.
- Assists in developing an annual work plan for the department which considers available resources and anticipated workload.
Skills:
- Deep intuition for and experience with predictive modeling (statistics and/or machine learning)
- Technical sophistication with relational and unstructured (big data) database concepts and applications, quantitative methods and related applications and decision support tools.
- Ability to analyze problems, issues, outcomes, determine/estimate/project impact and provide or recommend business solutions.
- Demonstrated strong oral, written and presentation skills.
Knowledge:
- SAS or R. Bonus experience: JavaScript, Python, Ruby, Perl, Linux, Hadoop, Matlab, SQL, knowledge of No SQL databases and big data philosophies.
- Experience in Machine Learning (strongly preferred), Predictive Modeling, Bayesian analysis, and causal inference methods
- Bonus experience: Knowledge of managed care insurance and business processes, data, systems, and applications for claim payments, network and provider contract administration and management, population management.
- Experience mentoring junior and senior level team members on best analytic practices. Be effective at communicating complex structures. Have a high level of interpersonal skills.
Experience:
- Three to five years experience in data science, health services research, outcomes research, healthcare economics or epidemiology or equivalent years of education in the areas listed above.
- Experience with quality studies, population based analysis, disease management, and background in research methodologies and statistics.
Education and Certifications:
- The likely background for this role is a MS or PhD in a quantitative, technical discipline (mathematics, statistics, finance, economics or public health), although other backgrounds will be considered
Physical Demands:
- While performing the duties of the job, the employee is frequently required to sit, use hands and fingers, talk, hear, and see. The employee must be able to work over 40 hours per week. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 5 pounds.
