Job DescriptionEssential Duties and Responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Data Architecture and Strategy
- Align data architecture and strategy with business intelligence and AI/ML needs.
- Design and implement scalable, fault-tolerant data infrastructure and pipelines (batch and real-time).
- Define best practices for data modeling, ETL/ELT processes, and warehousing.
- Lead migration to modern data stacks and paradigms.
Engineering Leadership
- Mentor and guide other technical personnel and collaborate with BI Developers, Data Scientists, Application Engineering and DevOps teams.
- Lead matrix teams when necessary without formal supervisory authority within the context of a specific situation or a project.
- Drive design and code reviews, performance optimization, and cost-efficient solutions.
- Research, identify, plan, evangelize and socialize appropriate new technologies and technical solutions with IT as well as with business stakeholders.
- Identify, document and help protect MedImpact intellectual property where appropriate.
Data Governance & Quality
- Design and implement data governance frameworks, metadata management, lineage, security, compliance with HIPAA. Suggests refinements to current or institutes new data policies and procedures.
- Establish mechanisms for monitoring, detecting, and preventing data quality issues proactively.
Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Partner with business stakeholders to identify and translate ambiguous, unstated and understated business needs into holistic technical solutions.
- Represent MedImpact IT as a technology subject-matter expert internally and externally (with clients & partners) as necessary.
- Interface with clients to understand needs and concerns, suggest solutions and may manage sensitive customer-relationship situations.
Supervisory Responsibilities
Manages assigned staff in the segment area. Responsible for the overall direction, coordination, and evaluation of the unit. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems. Supports and enforces all company policies and procedures in a fair and consistent manner, taking corrective action whenever necessary.
Client Responsibilities
This is an internal and external client facing position that requires excellent customer service skills and interpersonal communication skills (listening/verbal/written). One must be able to; manage difficult or emotional client situations; Respond promptly to client needs; Solicit client feedback to improve service; Respond to requests for service and assistance from clients; Meet commitments to clients.
Education and/or Experience
BA/BS Degree; 8+ years related experience and 8+ years of SME in respective area(s); (or equivalent combination of education and experience) with at least 4+ years leading individual contributors and leaders of leaders; which may be substituted with an appropriate mix of leadership experience and 5 years of MedImpact experience plus an appropriate external leadership training program and internal mentorship with a seasoned leader (VP+ level) that must completed within 12 months in new position.

Other Skills and Abilities
- Mastery in data architecture, ETL tools, orchestration frameworks, infrastructure as code technologies.
- Expertise in structured and unstructured data, SQL databases (e.g., Oracle, PostgreSQL), NoSQL (e.g., MongoDB, Cassandra)
- Experience with streaming data architectures (e.g., event-driven systems).
Knowledge of data observability tools. - Proficiency in Python, Java, or other common programming languages.
- Analytical-thinking, critical-reasoning, and problem-solving skills as applied to complex business-technology subject areas.
- Ability to communicate complex ideas to non-technical stakeholders.
- Written, verbal and presentation skills to educate, inform and facilitate decision-making at management level.
- Planning and organization skills to conceive and execute projects and work-efforts independently and leading others.
- Proven capability in meeting challenges with resourcefulness, generating suggestions for improvement, developing innovative approaches and ideas.
- Ability to initiate and influence change in a matrix environment with limited formal authority.
- Technical trouble shooting and root cause analysis skills in service-disruption scenarios.
- Available for on-call work as needed.
- Experience with MLOps and deploying AI/ML models.
- Expertise in protecting health data requiring HIPAA compliance
- Contributions to open-source projects or patents.

Work Location
This position must work on-site at the San Diego Headquarters for purposes of providing adequate support to internal clients; being available for face-to-face interactions and coordination of work with other employees, colleagues, clients, or vendors; as well as for facilitation of quick and effective decisions through collaboration with stakeholders. Remote work is not an option for these purposes.
