Position Summary

The Fleet Senior Technical Specialist position is responsible for developing and maintaining a data-driven business intelligence platform using Power BI. This platform will provide critical insights into vehicle expenses, safety performance (leveraging telematics), vehicle replacement cycles, and overall fleet operational performance. The role is integral to optimizing fleet management practices for fleet operations, ensuring cost efficiency, safety, and reliability of vehicles critical to delivering utility services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Build and maintain Power BI dashboards and reports tailored to the utility industry’s unique fleet operations.
  • Develop actionable insights and visualizations for monitoring vehicle costs, utilization, and safety metrics.
  • Aggregate data from various sources, including telematics systems (e.g., Geotab, Samsara), fuel management systems, fleet tracking tools, and ERP software.
  • Ensure the accuracy and consistency of integrated data, aligning with utility compliance standards.
  • Analyze vehicle expenses, including maintenance, fuel, depreciation, and repair costs.
  • Identify trends and provide recommendations to reduce operational and lifecycle costs.
  • Utilize telematics data to track driver behavior, vehicle safety metrics, and incident reports.
  • Provide detailed reports and recommendations to improve driver safety and reduce accidents.
  • Analyze data to determine optimal vehicle replacement cycles based on total cost of ownership (TCO), utilization, and maintenance history.
  • Monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) such as asset utilization, vehicle downtime, and route efficiency specific to utility service needs.
  • Provide insights to improve fleet reliability, reduce outages, and enhance customer service responsiveness.
  • Generate reports to demonstrate compliance and fleet performance to regulators and internal stakeholders.
  • Train stakeholders to effectively use Power BI dashboards for data-driven decision-making.
  • Continuously enhance the business intelligence platform to address evolving fleet management challenges and utility-specific needs.
  • Stay updated on emerging fleet technologies, analytics tools, and industry trends.

Qualifications:

  • Senior Level: Bachelor’s degree in Data Analytics, Information Systems, Business Administration, or a related field with a minimum of 10 years relevant work experience or, in lieu of a degree, a minimum of 12 years of relevant work experience will be required.
  • Related experience includes: Data modeling, statistical analysis, scenario analysis, data forecasting, etc.
  • Certification in Power BI, fleet telematics, or data analytics is a plus.
  • Experience in fleet management, data analytics, or business administration preferably in the utility or transportation industries.
  • Proven experience developing dashboards and reports in Power BI, with a focus on fleet or operational data.
  • Familiarity with telematics systems, fuel management platforms, and fleet maintenance software used in utility operations is preferred, but not required..
  • Advanced proficiency in Power BI, including DAX, Power Query, and data modeling with the ability to query, join and manipulate complex data tables.
  • Proficiency in SQL and Microsoft Excel for data extraction and analysis.
  • Proficiency with ChatGPT is preferred.
  • Knowledge of utility-specific fleet challenges, such as service truck optimization, emergency response, and environmental compliance is preferred, but not required.
  • Excellent analytical and quantitative skills with demonstrated ability to proactively identify highly complex challenges or roadblocks, make impactful recommendations, and implement, test, and improve solutions to prevent issues from reoccurring while developing deep knowledge of the subject matter.
  • Demonstrates excellent interpersonal skills when interfacing with all levels of the organization.
  • Demonstrates leadership skills by identifying and accepting ownership of job responsibilities and tasks and working through others to accomplish business objectives. 
  • Excellent problem-solving and communication skills to convey complex insights to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop process improvements and automation to enhance work processes
  • Demonstrate a questioning attitude to continue to learn, produce results, and strengthen existing relationships.
