About the role
We are looking for a temporary Head, Reporting, Data and Evaluation to join the STFC Programmes Directorate. Programmes Directorate is responsible for implementing STFC’s core programme across particle physics, astronomy and nuclear physics. This includes the associated high performance computing, and STFC's delivery of education, innovation, training, international and public engagement activities. We also manage and oversee the subscriptions to UKRIs largest international facilities and organisations, supporting DSIT in their governance, as well as linking to the relevant scientific communities through our advisory panels.
This role will lead the provision of corporate reporting and governance on data and analysis for the whole directorate, as well as work across STFC and UKRI more widely, working with the retained data and analytical functions across UKRI, and developing analytical solutions with other areas. The role involves working in close partnership with colleagues in the SPC Directorate and UKRI
As part of the role you will have the opportunity to lead and work in a range of areas and projects.
This role will:
• Take a lead in managing STFCs corporate data reporting and governance for PD for investments in grants and skills taking account of the emerging UKRI context eg increased need for some data and deployment of new tools.
• Manage cross directorate strategic planning exercises and implementing appropriate reporting linking strategic objectives with reporting and data.
• Promotion of advice and guidance on standard and practices in relation to benefits realisation in order to embed into the organisation an outcome focused approach to all we do. (including overseeing approach to case study evidence)
• Obtain an understanding of STFC’s current peer review and data practices and the emergence of new reporting for studentships to appreciate how data can be improved and interfaces with UKRI systems and processes improved.
• Represent STFC and participate in UKRI and cross research council activities and meetings to ensure STFC active participation, sharing of best practice and leadership where appropriate. In particular represent STFC in data programme activities including data migration activities and links with TFS etc.
• Produce ad-hoc support across the organisation using a variety of analytical and statistical methods.
• Foster a collaborative, collegiate approach across virtual teams in support of collective working. Planning, managing and delivering a portfolio of projects and activities with different timescales, priorities and delivery mechanisms.
• Co-ordinate STFC responses to external requests for data and information, including parliament and key stakeholders.
• Work as part of a team both within STFC and in being an active member of the wider analytical community.
Person Specification

• Analytical and Data management skills: Experience in delivering robust quantitative and qualitative analysis, ideally in the context of evaluating funding or policy interventions. Understanding of UKRI context and systems for grants and studentships. (S&I)
• Planning and Organisation: Ability to plan and prioritise work and that of others to implement frameworks or new procedures to deliver successful outcomes; respond flexibly to changing requirements as required. Able to work under pressure and prioritise work effectively. (S&I)
• Strategic Thinking: Proficient at developing, influencing and executing strategic plans with sound judgement; able to set priorities, allocate resources and drive initiatives aligned with organisational goals. (S&I)
• Leadership Skills: Demonstrate the ability to make well informed decisions, seek opportunities, and articulate a vision to others; provide direction and motivation and lead in the delivery of complex activities and/or team responsibilities including with external stakeholders. (S&I)
• Teamwork and Collaboration: Capable of working collaboratively to identify challenges, develop creative solutions and implement changes within a team setting; able to lead the successful delivery of activities internally and externally. (S&I)
• Communication: Excellent written and oral communication skills with keen attention to detail; ability to develop and deliver well-structured, clearly-articulated professional documents and presentations for a range of internal and external audiences. (S&I)
