Data Governance Manager

Please Note: This is a Utah-based hybrid position which will require some regular in-office days each week. Additionally, employment with BambooHR is contingent on passing both a background and credit check. 

Essential Job Duties

BambooHR is seeking a detail-oriented and proactive Data Governance Manager, who will manage a critical portion of our Data Platform (Data Governance / Compliance / Education.  This role is crucial in establishing and maintaining a strong data governance framework & mapping that ensures data accuracy, consistency, and compliance across the organization. You will be responsible for building a company-wide KPI library, driving data governance processes, and partnering with the Data Security team to ensure compliance with relevant regulations. This is a unique opportunity to shape how BambooHR manages and uses its data as a strategic asset while fostering Data Education throughout the company.

You will:

• Design, develop, and maintain a holistic company-wide KPI library. This includes:
  • Defining standard company definitions for all KPIs across departments.
  • Documenting calculations and code-based logic used to generate KPIs.
  • Documenting upstream dependencies from source systems and operational procedures.
  • Establishing and monitoring Service Level Agreements (SLAs) for data quality and availability.
• Map a hierarchy of KPIs across the organization, from the CEO down to operational teams in each department (Sales, Finance, Product, Marketing, Customer Success, etc.).
  • Categorize KPIs as primary, secondary, and tertiary.
  • Identify and document underlying supporting metrics, including leading and lagging indicators.
• Drive Data Governance Committee Management:
  • Establish and facilitate data governance committees with representation from each department.
  • Develop and implement a formal intake process for reviewing and approving requests to change or enhance KPIs.
  • Manage the communication and coordination of KPI changes with Data Engineering and Analytics Engineering teams.
  • Help drive Certification for Certified Data Assets
• Partner with the Data Security function and team to ensure data compliance with relevant regulations, including:
  • GDPR (General Data Protection Regulation)
  • CCPA (California Consumer Privacy Act)
  • HIPAA (Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act)  
  • Others as needed

What You Need to Get the Job Done

• 8+ years of experience in data governance, data analysis, or a related field.
• Strong understanding of data governance principles and best practices.
• Experience in defining and documenting KPIs and metrics.
• Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills.
• Strong communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to facilitate meetings and collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders.
• Ability to read and write SQL and data models while influencing best practices
• Familiarity with data privacy and security regulations (e.g., GDPR, CCPA, HIPAA).
• Experience with data cataloging and metadata management tools is a plus.
• Bachelor's degree in a relevant field such as Business Administration, Information Management, Data Science, or a related discipline.  A master's degree is considered advantageous.
