Make Wayve the experience that defines your career!

The role

We're seeking an inspiring technical leader to support our Vehicle Generalisation team - pioneering the challenge of making our machine learning driving system truly platform-agnostic. You'll lead a multidisciplinary team across robotics, controls, and ML to abstract away hardware differences through modelling, data, and system design, enabling our models to generalise across a diverse fleet without retraining or tuning. This is a rare opportunity to shape how intelligent systems interact with the physical world, turning platform diversity from a challenge into a core strength.

Key responsibilities:

  • Define and drive the vision for vehicle generalisation, ensuring our ML and control systems scale seamlessly across platforms with minimal bespoke adaptation.
  • Lead and grow a multidisciplinary team of robotics engineers, ML practitioners, and software developers focused on platform abstraction, vehicle modeling, and reproducibility.
  • Oversee new platform bringup, from hardware-complete to AV-ready, ensuring performance parity with reference platforms in a predictable and scalable manner.
  • Guide the development of models and tools that diagnose, measure, and reduce vehicle-to-vehicle variability and platform-specific quirks.
  • Collaborate cross-functionally with autonomy, data, and evaluation teams to integrate generalisation principles into the broader AV stack.
  • Own metrics and reporting related to reproducibility, bringup velocity, and consistency in vehicle behavior, and ensure continuous improvement.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and technical excellence, encouraging novel approaches to generalisation and robust engineering practices.

About you

In order to set you up for success as a Head of Vehicle Generalisation at Wayve, we’re looking for the following skills and experience.

Essential

  • You have a strong technical foundation in robotics and applied machine learning, with experience building real-world systems that interact with hardware.
  • You’ve led multidisciplinary engineering teams and can balance technical depth with people and project leadership.
  • You thrive in ambiguity, with a proven ability to turn complex, open-ended goals into clear roadmaps and impactful outcomes.
  • You’re an effective communicator and collaborator, able to align diverse stakeholders around a shared vision and drive cross-functional progress.

Desirable

  • Experience with autonomous vehicles or robotics systems deployed in production settings.
  • Familiarity with platform abstraction, vehicle modeling, or motion estimation techniques.

This is a full-time role based in our office in London or Sunnyvale.  At Wayve we want the best of all worlds so we operate a hybrid working policy that combines time together in our offices and workshops to fuel innovation, culture, relationships and learning, and time spent working from home.   We operate core working hours so you can determine the schedule that works best for you and your team.

We understand that everyone has a unique set of skills and experiences and that not everyone will meet all of the requirements listed above. If you’re passionate about self-driving cars and think you have what it takes to make a positive impact on the world, we encourage you to apply.
