What you will do:
As an Electrochemical Engineer on the Electrochemical Development and Test team, you will be performing and creating standard test procedures to support scale-up and development of Electra's novel electrochemical cells/stacks and their integration with Electra's overall ironmaking process. This role will also develop standard methods for data analysis and reporting and build platforms for visualizing data and connecting disparate information streams.
Responsibilities include:
- Design experimental test campaigns and write and execute test plans
- Develop tools and platforms that streamline the time from data collection to data reporting
- Critically analyze, interpret, and communicate research findings to the broader team
- Lead cross-functional project teams and train junior team members
- Provide technical insights to other teams and leaders as an electrochemical subject matter expert
- Collaborate with other teams on technical development to inform scale-up and integration with other processes
- Read, understand, and comply with all workplace health and safety policies, safe work practices, and company policies and procedures
- Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor
What we need you to bring to the team:
- Bachelor’s degree in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or related 5+ years of industry experience working in electrochemistry (excludes internships, co-ops, and other school projects) OR 3+ years of industry experience working in electrochemistry with a master’s degree in chemistry
- Experience testing, building, or operating systems in one of the following fields of electrochemical engineering: flow battery, metal battery, fuel cell, H2 or CO2 electrolysis, or electrodeposition technologies
- Experience querying, manipulating, and analyzing large electrochemical data sets
- Strong theoretical knowledge of electrochemistry fundamentals
- Strong practical knowledge of electrochemical cell design and component interactions
- Proficient with electrochemical measurement techniques (potentiometry, cyclic voltammetry, impedance spectroscopy, etc.) and use of associated instrumentation
- Ability to work on problems of diverse scope where the analysis of information requires evaluation of identifiable factors
- Devise solutions based on limited information and adapt approach to resolve issues
- Ability to work independently, with work only being reviewed at critical points
- Ability to work with senior internal/external partners
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; written and verbal
- Proficiency with data science and statistical analysis programs such as Python, MATLAB, R, SQL, JMP, etc.
- Proficiency with, or ability to quickly learn, Microsoft Office suite of programs, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneDrive, and SharePoint
What we want you to bring to the team:
- Advanced degree (Bachelors, Master's or PhD) in chemistry, materials science, chemical engineering, or related field with 7+ years of industry experience
- Data Scientist and Engineer with a robust background in electrochemical testing, data analysis, and software development
- Experienced in designing and automating test campaigns, optimizing data, analysis workflows
- Ability to demonstrate wide-range knowledge and use in-depth professional knowledge to resolve complex issues
- Provide solutions to issues in creative and effective ways
- Understand the interrelationships of different disciplines
- Work on complex issues where the analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors
- Experience in a start-up (a plus)
Compensation:
- The anticipated starting pay range for this position is $95,000- $115,000 and may be more or less depending upon skills, experience, and education.
