In this role you will make an impact on our business by creating value and supporting decision making as you manage the functional data science capability through the application of mathematical, statistical, predictive modelling or machine-learning techniques to analyze data and generate insights. You will have the responsibility to build the data science roadmap for the business.

How you will contribute

  • Manage the introduction and use of analytics to meet business requirements, ensuring consistency across all user groups. Also, you will establish and manage functional analytics methods, techniques, and capabilities to enable the function to analyze data, generate insights, create value and drive decision making while you measure the progress of initiatives and market successes to the organization.

  • Assess the business problems to be solved and what internal or external data sources to use or acquire.

  • Identify and establish the veracity of the external sources of information that are relevant to the operational needs of the enterprise.

  • Define business-oriented goals for initiative(s) and explain the initiative(s) to business managers.

  • Apply your expertise in analysis of data with high volumes, velocities, and variety (numbers, symbols, text, sound, and image). In addition, you will develop forward-looking, predictive, real-time, model-based insights to create value and drive effective decision making.

  • Understand the identification, validation and exploitation of internal and external data sets generated from a diverse range of functional processes and in general you will be an expert in functional data and data sets.

  • Recruit talent and build teams with the right mix of skills to staff projects.

  • Working experience in a quantitative discipline and data science

  • Strong quantitative background in statistics and linear algebra as well as programming knowledge

  • Knowledgeable in classification techniques, collaborative filtering, association rules, and heuristics approaches

  • Understanding of advanced analytics platforms/tools such as R/SAS, Python, Hadoop, Apache Spark, and familiarity querying databases

  • Familiarity generating dashboards and manipulating data visualization software KPIs/dimensions.

  • Interfacing with high-level stakeholders (SVPs and more)

Roles & Responsibilities:

  • Partner with o9 Implementation lead and MDS D&A Lead to drive Data Discovery process (what data is needed, where to source it from, how to organize it & how to make it available for consumption)

  • Owner of the plan for all data-related activities owned by the business. Work with the MDS D&A and Data Leads to actively monitor and report progress and escalate where needed.

  • Partner with Functional Data Owners and MDS D&A Lead to build inventory of self-service reports that are consuming data from GCP and BW for remediation/rationalization purposes.

  • Work with MDS D&A Lead to drive training and communications strategy for self-service report remediation process with end users in business.

  • Collaborate with BU functional stakeholders to identify and prioritize current data related pain points and collaborate with S4o9 functional teams to develop and oversee execution of CI initiatives to enhance data quality.

  • Manage dependencies and facilitate cross-functional collaboration to ensure seamless data integration and utilization.

  • Assume the role of Business Owner facilitating effective communication, prioritization, and decision-making throughout the program lifecycle.

  • Data Governance and Quality: Establish and enforce data governance policies, which include data quality, and related metadata management and reference data management. 

  • Lead x-functional groups to address data issue resolution and/or data quality improvement initiatives.

Required Experience and Skills:

  • 8+ years of experience overall.

  • Understanding of data modelling approaches. Prior experience of advanced analytics, including machine learning and predictive modeling is desirable.

  • Business Acumen: Demonstrated ability to translate business requirements into data and/or reporting solutions. Strong understanding of business processes and key performance indicators in the life insurance industry.

  • Leadership: Proven track record of leading and developing high-performing teams. Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.

  • Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to think strategically and execute tactically.

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree required.

Travel:

  • Occasional travel may be required based on project needs and stakeholder locations.

The base salary range for this position is $117,400.00-$161,425.00; the exact salary depends on several factors such as experience, skills, education, and budget. In addition to base salary, this position is eligible for participation in a highly competitive bonus program with possibility for overachievement based on performance and company results.
