The Actuarial Services practice is just one of many consulting services groups that form part of RSM Canada’s consulting line of business. A career within Actuarial Services will provide you with the opportunity to contribute insurance, risk advisory, and consulting services to clients in variety of industries including insurance, financial services, not-for-profit, government, and many more. You will have the opportunity to provide advice covering traditional actuarial services, risk and financial modeling software, enterprise risk management, insurance management, capital and financial modeling, process risk and controls, data analytics, and insurance transformation projects. Simply put, you will consistently strive to provide economic and financial value optimization for our clients and their customers using risk management and insurance strategies and techniques.
As a Director, Actuarial Services, you’ll pair technical depth with business‑builder instincts to help our middle‑market P&C clients thrive. You will:
Client leadership & delivery
- Act as engagement lead and primary relationship manager, translating complex actuarial concepts into clear, board‑ready insights.
- Oversee the full actuarial toolkit—data wrangling, pricing, reserving, capital and financial‑condition testing—using modern analytics platforms to speed time‑to‑value.
- Design pragmatic modeling frameworks and governance controls that work for resource‑constrained mutuals, government auto plans, and specialty/agri carriers.
- Present findings to executives and regulators, ensuring recommendations balance technical rigor with commercial impact.
Growth & market strategy
- Shape go‑to‑market plans that expand RSM’s footprint with Western Canadian and Prairie insurers, leveraging your network and conference presence to create new opportunities.
- Build business cases and forecasts that resonate with CFOs and CROs, then convert them into multi‑year engagements.
- Craft compelling proposals, thought‑leadership pieces, and industry presentations that position RSM at the forefront of insurance innovation.
People & practice development
- Coach and mentor a diverse team of actuarial and data‑science talent, setting clear milestones and holding the squad accountable for results.
- Foster a collaborative culture—celebrating creativity, encouraging stretch assignments, and stepping in to remove roadblocks when change or uncertainty arises.
- Keep a pulse on emerging regulations, pricing analytics trends, and capital‑modeling advances, translating them into actionable service offerings for our clients.
The successful candidate should meet the following requirements:
- University degree in Actuarial Science, Statistics, Mathematics or similar
- At least 10 years of relevant work experience
- Fellow of the Canadian Institute of Actuaries (FCIA) and Casualty Actuarial Society (CAS)
- Experience in P&C insurance pricing, segmentation modeling, product reforms, data analytics, and predictive modeling.
- Experience managing and coaching junior actuarial staff from a career development perspective
- Experience leading actuarial team and/departments including recruiting, staff management, and stakeholder management
- Strong time management and organizational skills with the ability to multi-task and attain deadlines in a fast-paced, dynamic environment
Additional characteristics of the ideal candidate would also include:

- Solutions-oriented with keen attention to detail and analytical ability
- Self-motivated, accountable and able to work with minimal direction and/or supervision
- Able to work as an integral part of a team and share their unique strengths in a collaborative manner to achieve common goals
- Keen to understand and learn innovative concepts and practices
- Previous work experience and strong knowledge of actuarial pricing software an asset (AKUR8, Radar, Emblem)
- Proficient in Microsoft Office (Word/Excel/PowerPoint)
- Previous work experience with SQL, Visual Basic, R, Python, or Power BI considered an asset
- Excellent communication skills in English, both verbal and written

At RSM, an employee’s pay at any point in their career is intended to reflect their experiences, performance, and skills for their current role. The salary range (or starting rate for interns and associates) for this role represents numerous factors considered in the hiring decisions including, but not limited to, education, skills, work experience, certifications, location, etc. As such, pay for the successful candidate(s) could fall anywhere within the stated range.
Compensation Range: $146,000 - $248,500Individuals selected for this role will be eligible for a discretionary bonus based on firm and individual performance.
