What you’ll be doing

Risk Management is accountable for the independent oversight of risk management inherent to CIBC’s transactions and activities. These risks include but are not limited to ensuring effective processes are in place for the identification, management, measurement, monitoring and control of operational, reputation and legal, strategic, market, credit, investment and liquidity risk, collectively referred to as “CIBC Risk”, incurred by CIBC’s businesses, functional and corporate governance groups.

Reporting to the AVP, Risk Data Management Office, the Director, Risk Data Technology Strategy is responsible for developing and executing a comprehensive risk management data strategy that integrates data governance, quality assurance, and analytics. This role ensures that high-quality data is readily available to support informed decision-making and regulatory compliance across the organization.

How you’ll succeed

  • Risk Data Architecture Strategy: You will develop and implement a comprehensive risk data architecture strategy that aligns with CIBC's business objectives and risk management framework while continuously monitoring for improvement opportunities. You will oversee data aggregation collaborate with IT and data engineering teams to ensure effective integration of data systems and recommend new technologies to support risk initiatives.

  • Leadership: You will lead and manage the Data Technology Strategy team by fostering a collaborative and innovative culture, establishing clear goals, and empowering continuous improvement. Monitor progress, align employee contributions with organizational objectives, build team capabilities, and mentor team members to develop a high-performing team.

  • Project Delivery: You will oversee the delivery of strategic risk data initiatives to ensure alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements by providing leadership, defining project scope, and managing stakeholder engagements.

  • Build Relationships: You will cultivate and maintain strong, collaborative relationships with colleagues, clients, and stakeholders by actively engaging in open communication, demonstrating empathy, and fostering a supportive environment.

Who you are

  • You can demonstrate proficiency in data modeling techniques (e.g., conceptual, logical, and physical data models) to design effective data structures.

  • You can demonstrate an understanding of data warehousing concepts, including ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and data integration strategies and familiarity with BI tools and techniques for data visualization and reporting, enabling effective decision-making.

  • You possess an understanding of API (Application Programming Interface) integration for connecting various data systems and applications and knowledge of cloud-based data storage and processing solutions (e.g., AWS, Azure, Google Cloud) for scalable data management.

  • You are a bold and accountable leader. You have experience developing and implementing strategic team goals. You have experience coaching employees and driving successful team performance.
