ESA seeks a highly motivated Business Data Analyst to join our talented team. The Business Data Analyst can be located in the Northern CA region (San Francisco or Oakland, CA) and work remotely. The ideal candidate shall perform various analytical work, collect operational data, reconcile transactions, interpret financial and statistical data, and create new and modified reports related to the economic status of the company and statistical reviews of departments, projects, or other related operational items. This position can be hybrid (2) days per week in the office, preferably in San Francisco, CA. 

Who You Are 

  • You are an effective team player and collaborator who is savvy with Excel, PowerPoint, and various data collection and reporting software.
  • You have a minimum of 1-3 years of relevant experience in a professional consulting environment designing, creating, and maintaining databases, spreadsheets, and other reporting systems.
  • A bachelor's degree in business, information systems, or a related field, or an additional 4 years of experience in lieu of a degree. 
  • High level of technical proficiency with data collection and reporting software.
  • Advanced experience with Excel.
  • Exposure to data visualization tools, preferably Power BI, is preferred.
  • Exposure to an Enterprise Resource Planning tool, such as Deltek VantagePoint, preferred.
  • Exposure to Adaptive is helpful.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and organizational skills is a must.
  • Ability to work with all staff levels and handle multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal guidance is critical.
  • Functional knowledge of general accounting concepts, terminology, and financial reporting.
  • High degree of accuracy and attention to detail.
  • Have a good understanding of the basic functions and financial terminology necessary to create meaningful reports that accurately convey financial information and can provide routine data analytics, financial performance analysis, data collection and report writing.
  • Ability to connect the dots at a strategic level while completing day-to-day tasks in a fast-paced environment, often with little oversight, while maintaining a commitment to quality.
  • Experience working in a consulting environment where it's fast-paced and quick to pivot from one project to another.
  • Experience working in the AEC industry is a plus.
  • Must pass an excel case study test as part of the hiring process.
  • Knowledge of SQL is a plus.

What You Will Do for ESA

  • Develop, publish, and maintain weekly and monthly financial reporting, with a focus on KPI targeting and trending analysis to the COO, Business Intelligence Manager and Regional Directors.
  • Provide technical support to audit data integrity, maintain user-level databases for ad-hoc projects, and prepare queries and reports.
  • Maintain intuitive, simple, and meaningful performance dashboards, or assemble data into tables and other formats to inform decision making.
  • Provide meaningful metrics and data to assist departments and programs in preparing annual budgets and forecasts as well as identifying areas for continual improvement.
  • Identify patterns and prepare presentations of results in the most effective and appropriate display for the intended audience.
  • Validate data for problem identification and significance across multiple reports and data sources.
  • Demonstrate initiative and creativity to build on existing systems to address new reporting needs.
  • Assist with and perform ad-hoc reporting as required or other projects as assigned.
  • Manage the communication channel for Vantagepoint users and answer questions accordingly.
  • Understanding the business model and collaborating with various different business entities to be able to answer questions from employees and guide them through the process.

ESA has established multiple pay ranges tailored to the economic factors in the geographies in which ESA staff reside. For this position, the range is approximately as listed based on our anticipated hiring locations as noted in the above job details. Actual compensation is determined by several factors including but not limited to an individual’s related experience, education, skills, and the city in which the applicant lives.
