Visa U.S.A. Inc., a Visa Inc. company, needs a Data Scientist (multiple openings) in Foster City, CA to:
- Generate business insights based on big data, identify impactful recommendations, and communicate findings to clients.
- Brainstorm innovative ways to use our unique data to answer business problems.
- Extract and understand data to form an opinion on how to best help our clients and derive relevant insights.
- Develop visualizations to make your sophisticated analyses accessible to a broad audience.
- Assess the efficiency and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques.
- Develop custom data models and algorithms to apply to data sets.
- Use predictive modeling to increase and optimize customer experiences, revenue generation, data insights, and other business outcomes.
- Partner with a variety of Visa teams to provide comprehensive solutions.
- Synthesize ideas/proposals in writing and engage in productive discussions with external or internal partners.
Position reports to the Foster City, CA office and may allow for partial telecommuting.
Qualifications
Employer will accept a Bachelor’s degree in Business Analytics, Statistics, Operations Research, Economics, Computer Science or related field and 2 years of experience in the job offered or in a data scientist or data analyst-related occupation.
Position requires experience in the following skills:
- Using macro, pivot table, and key Excel functions to analyze business and financial performance
- Using PowerPoint to create charts by synthesizing complex analysis into insights appropriate for a business audience.
- Extracting and aggregating data, and creating specific data tables from large data sets using SQL, Hive, Airflow or other data pipeline tools.
- Analyzing large datasets using statistical software/programming language R, Python, SAS, or Stata.
- Understanding code optimizations to elevate computing efficiency and derive meaningful insights.
- Data visualization using Tableau, Python and/or R, including appropriate chart design and selection to illustrate key information from data.
- Building and working with predictive and descriptive statistics models (including regression, classification, clustering, and custom model etc.) using machine learning toolkit, Jupyter Notebook, Python and/or Hadoop.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is $129,400.00 USD to $200,500.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity. Visa has a comprehensive benefits package for which this position may be eligible that includes Medical, Dental, Vision, 401 (k), FSA/HSA, Life Insurance, Paid Time Off, and Wellness Program.
