Job Description

What if you could help to make infrastructure decisions happen in seconds impacting billions of dollars — based not just on data, but on real engineering logic? If that idea excites you, we’ve got the role for you.

At our AI Powered Asset Management venture, we are building a GenAI platform that transforms how engineers, inspectors, and asset owners get answers. Trained on 30+ years of monitoring data, inspection reports, civil design models, and structural engineering principles, our product doesn’t just visualize—it reasons.

We’re not here to take incremental steps. We’re creating a generative model capable of producing expert-level insights in seconds: from identifying failure risks to estimating the remaining lifespan of an asset, and simulating what-if scenarios based on changes in stress, load, or deterioration.

To make that possible, we’re looking for a PhD-level Civil or Structural Engineer to help us build, test, and validate the AI behind it all. You’ll work hand-in-hand with data scientists, product designers, and domain experts to ensure that every answer the model gives is grounded in real engineering logic—because we’re not just building software, we’re building trust.

Here are some things you work on

  • Translate inspection and monitoring data into structured engineering reasoning for training the model;

  • Validate AI-generated reports and lifetime estimates against real-world calculations;

  • Incorporate civil and structural design principles into model logic and prompt engineering;

  • Build out simulation tools that predict degradation over time under changing conditions;

  • Collaborate on acquiring and integrating inspection and monitoring datasets from key partners.

This role is a good fit for you if

  • You hold a PhD (or are completing one) in Civil or Structural Engineering;

  • You’re excited to work at the edge of AI and engineering—combining physical models with generative reasoning;

  • You’re comfortable designing validation pipelines to test AI output against engineering expectations;

  • You want to see your deep technical knowledge translated into a widely used, highly impactful product;

  • You enjoy working in a small, fast-moving team where you help define both the problem and the solution;

  • Demonstrable experience in interdisciplinary teamwork. Experience collaborating with data scientists, ML engineers, or software developers.

What you'll do

  • Ensure engineering accuracy and consistency in the AI model’s outputs;

  • Create frameworks to benchmark model predictions against established engineering methods;

  • Contribute domain knowledge to model training, fine-tuning, and feature design;

  • Drive collaborations with external experts, institutes, and partners like TNO;

  • Help shape a new generation of engineering tools that are radically faster and smarter.

It would be great if

  • You’ve worked with monitoring data, structural models, or lifecycle predictions;

  • You have experience with FEM, degradation modeling, or inspection regimes;

  • You’re curious about AI and machine learning—even if you’re new to it;

  • You’ve published research related to asset degradation, infrastructure monitoring, or structural safety.

Why us?

We’re a small, entrepreneurial team not just building another dashboard. We’re building a reasoning engine for the infrastructure world. You’ll get:

  • A high-trust, low-hierarchy team; you get autonomy and ownership from day one;

  • A meaningful role in developing foundational logic for a breakthrough product;

  • Flexible working arrangements, team retreats, laptop, and other perks;

  • A mission-driven environment focused on making infrastructure safer and smarter. The chance to work on something truly novel—where your impact is both technical and societal;

  • Visa sponsorship and relocation support.

After you have applied

  • You will receive an automated confirmation-email of the receipt of your application;

  • When we see a match, we will invite you for the first interview within a couple of days. Of course, you will also receive a message if we will not invite you;

  • After a successful first round, you will be invited for the second round;

  • If we are both still positive after the second interview, we will make you an offer and with that we hope to welcome you at Fugro!
