Data Engineer-Engineering Tools

Here at The Exploration Company, we are developing, producing, and operating Nyx, a modular and reusable space orbital vehicle that can eventually be refuelled in orbit and that can carry cargo - and potentially humans in the longer run.

We want you as a talented Software or Data Engineer to help us in our mission by aiding in the development of our in-house internal telemetry and data ingestion frameworks and pipelines.

Key Responsibilities

In your capacity as a Data Engineer, your role will be continuously evolving, but day to day your duties will include:

• Basic understanding of time-series data

• Develop an SDK to massage, annotate, and pre-process data into a format suitable for ingestion

• Aid engineering teams to integrate the SDK into their data pipelines

• Develop data ingestion and pre-processing pipelines

• Extend the SDK to support common telemetry formats

• Implementation of command line tools and backend services

• Use of best practices around testing, integration, and release management

• Documentation, support, and user training

• Schedule and backlog management

What we would love to see from you

In the role of Data Ingestion Engineer ideally, you will have the following:

• Very good Python knowledge, including modules and packages

• Good understanding of patterns in software engineering, specially around SDK development

• A working knowledge of databases

• Experience with agile software development philosophy

• Experience with backlog management

• Experience with a workflow scheduler, such as Argo, Dagster, Prefect, Airflow...

• Readiness to work in a fast-paced environment with strict deadlines

• These are optional, but we value experience in:

  • C++ and/or LabView

  • Software/SDK packaging and distribution

  • Engineering and data analysis experience

  • Infrastructure as code tools, such as Terraform

  • Public cloud providers such as AWS, Google Cloud, or Azure

  • Data modelling, management and governance

  • API design

  • Other programming languages

  • Working in engineering-heavy industries, such as aerospace, automotive...
