We’re looking for a skilled Splunk Engineer who thrives in secure, fast-paced environments and brings strong expertise in SIEM technologies and enterprise log analytics. The ideal candidate will have experience designing, maintaining, and optimizing large-scale Splunk environments across classified environments. You will lead the integration of enterprise data sources into Splunk, work closely with cyber analysts and system owners, and support real-time operations and investigations. This is a hands-on engineering role that plays a critical part in providing comprehensive support for the CIO of the ODNI. The program provides architecture, engineering oversight, governance, policy and process management in various roles and projects within the CIO.
Responsibilities:
- Architect, deploy, and maintain distributed Splunk Enterprise and Splunk Enterprise Security (ES) environments.
- Integrate log sources across infrastructure, application, and network layers into Splunk via forwarders and API-based ingestion.
- Build custom dashboards, data models, alerts, and visualizations tailored to cyber defense and operational requirements.
- Tune and optimize Splunk search performance and indexing strategies to improve speed and relevance.
- Develop and manage onboarding scripts and automation using Bash, Python, or Ansible.
- Collaborate with incident response teams to support investigations, threat hunting, and security operations.
- Maintain Splunk apps, technical add-ons (TAs), and compliance with DoD STIGs, NIST, and agency-specific security controls.
- Provide engineering documentation, change management, and accreditation support for all Splunk system components.
Requirements:
- BS in Information Systems, Cybersecurity, or related technical field
- 5+ years of experience in systems administration or cyber operations, with 3+ years supporting Splunk in secure or classified environments
- Deep understanding of Splunk architecture, SPL (Search Processing Language), and Enterprise Security (ES)
- Proficient in Linux system administration and scripting (including Python and/or Bash)
- Hands-on experience with data onboarding via syslog, REST API, or Splunk Universal Forwarders
- Familiarity with enterprise authentication (LDAP, SSO), RBAC, and multi-tenant environments
- Experience supporting incident response, forensic investigations, or SOC operations
- Experience in deploying and managing Splunk in virtualized or cloud-hosted environments (VMware, AWS, or C2S)
- US citizenship and an active TS/SCI with CI Polygraph security clearance required
Desired Experience:
- Splunk Core Certified Power User, Splunk Certified Admin, or Splunk Enterprise Security Certified Admin
- Experience with SIEM tuning, compliance reporting (RMF, NIST 800-53), and log retention policy enforcement
- Familiarity with data enrichment, threat intel integration, and correlation rule development
- Exposure to automation tools like Ansible, Terraform, or Jenkins for Splunk deployment

Pay Range: $49,996.80 - $290,004.00
