Do you want to complete your MSc or PhD thesis in collaboration with a highly-skilled team that uses cutting edge techniques in Natural Language Processing and Algorithmic Trading? We are looking for talented students willing to tackle cool challenges in NLP, Algo Trading, Financial Time Series, Stock Market prediction and/or Portfolio Optimization.

At Alipes Capital, we have been the market leader in automating the financial markets since we started back in 2008, shaping a fully automatic natural language processing system for reading and interpreting financial news.

Project Possibilities:

Your work will support turning massive data sets of unstructured financial information into structured datasets and mathematical models that accurately predict movements in the equity markets. 

In doing so, you would contribute to one of these project topics:

  • Infer sentiment from Earnings Conference Calls Redesign and introduce new text-processing techniques to extract additional and more accurate entities from the text-sources that underlie our trading algorithms

  • Portfolio Optimization for ML-driven stock positions

  • Use alternative-data sources to predict stock-market reactions

  • - we are open in a friendly, skeptical way to fancy proposals - if you got ‘em, pitch 

The Team

We are a tight-knit modeling team with sixteen passionate quantitative researchers covering eight nationalities – thirteen PhD’s and three MSc’s- with expertise in statistical analysis, mathematical modeling and machine learning. .

We enjoy collaboration, lending a helping hand and discussing the business cases built upon our data-sets. All team members write code, dream in numbers and are not afraid to discuss technical details.

Need to have

  • Advanced skills in Math, NLP, algorithmic fundamentals and data hacking experience

  • Aptitude for programming in a numerical scripting language (we primarily use Python)

  • A meticulous and detail-oriented mind

  • Currently associated with a Danish university, as this collaboration would be in-person and therefore we are not considering remote collaborations


Nice to have

  • Experience using modern deep learnings techniques

  • Working with financial/trading data

  • Experience with C# or C/C++

  • Familiarity with software engineering (version control, unit testing, object oriented-design, functional programing)

  • Degree in Computer Science / Engineering / Maths / Physics
