Job Description

Olam food ingredients (ofi) is a global leader at the forefront of food & beverage consumer trends delivering sustainable, natural, and plant-based ingredients & solutions serving large, attractive and high growth end-use categories. Olam Europe Limited, based in London, are seeking to appoint a Data Scientist to the business, based out of the London office.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintenance and continuing development of the company’s Value-at-Risk (VaR) model across all linear and non-linear commodity and currency exposures, using Python. Development of a user interface for the end-user will also be required. 
  • Continuous engagement with Business Unit (BU) stakeholders to understand their needs and goals and help scope further risk-related projects. 
  • Perform exploratory data analysis and visualization to discover patterns, trends, and insights for both the traded markets and associated positions held. 
  • Select, apply, and fine-tune analytical / machine learning models to diverse data sets, and solve various business problems. 
  • Implement and communicate the results of your models and visualizations at all levels to help drive business value. 
  • A collaborative and agile mindset, and the ability to work well in a small and dynamic team.

Experience Requirements

  • A STEM degree with a very high level of understanding of coding principles 
  • 3+ years of data science experience in industry with analytical models applied to real-world data 
  • A high level of proficiency in at least Python and SQL, as well as other programming and data science and statistical tools and frameworks. 
  • A very strong command of Value-at-Risk modelling (particularly historical simulation), stress testing and financial derivatives (futures, options, exotics) and their associated exposures (e.g. the “Greeks”)  
  • Time series modelling (both machine-learning and econometric methods) 
  • Proficiency in visualizing complex data for a broad audience 
  • Advanced qualifications in mathematics, statistics, and machine learning preferred.
