Carnegie Mellon University Africa (CMU-Africa) is seeking a passionate, highly motivated professional to serve as AI Online Course Development Assistant for a fixed term duration in Kigali, Rwanda. This position will support three subject matter experts (SMEs) in designing and developing online courses in Machine Learning and Generative AI. The successful candidate will also serve as a liaison between the course developers and a professional course development team responsible for implementing the courses in Canvas. This role is ideal for a recent graduate with a master’s degree in artificial intelligence or a related field, and hands-on experience with machine learning tools. Experience building generative AI applications is desirable. This is a fixed-term, full-time position in Kigali, Rwanda.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Collaborate with subject matter experts to develop engaging and interactive online courses on Machine Learning and Generative AI.
  • Function as the primary liaison between the professors developing course content and the professional course development team implementing the courses in Canvas.
  • Assist in designing course materials, including lecture content, assignments, and assessments.
  • Work with machine learning tools and frameworks to create practical demonstrations and real-world case studies.
  • Develop course examples, projects, and problem-solving exercises for the generative AI course.
  • Ensure that course content aligns with best practices in AI education and industry trends.
  • Provide technical support and feedback to both the course developers and the course implementation team.

Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Science, or a related field.
  • Strong experience with machine learning tools and frameworks (e.g., TensorFlow, PyTorch, scikit-learn).
  • Practical experience using generative AI (e.g., GANs, Transformers, LLMs) to solve real- world problems.
  • Experience with practical applications of AI in Africa is a plus
  • A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered

Skills and Competences:

  • Familiarity with Canvas or similar online learning management system (LMS) is advantageous.
  • Proficient programming skills in Python, with extensive experience in AI/ML libraries.
  • Strong foundation in the mathematical principles underpinning machine learning and its applications.
  • Demonstrated practical experience in utilizing Python and related libraries to address machine learning challenges.
  • Excellent communication and coordination skills to effectively bridge academia and course development teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to work autonomously and adhere to deadlines
  • Must be based in Kigali, Rwanda.
