Summary
Works collaboratively with peers, business partners and management to extract knowledge and insights from high volume, high dimensional geographic data to investigate complex business problems through a range of location-based data preparation, modeling, analysis, mapping, and visualization techniques. Proficient in core data science skills, geospatial techniques, can manage a complex workload, and possessing the ability to effectively communicate findings.
What You'll Do
- Consult with business partners to identify potential geospatial and/or data science projects, understand project needs, and identify project requirements.[MR1]
- Analyze data sources, gathering and transforming data into formats that are useful for analytics.
- Utilize ESRI desktop, enterprise, and web applications to enhance geospatial analysis and data visualization.
- Design cartographic products and data visualizations consisting of maps, web maps, charts, and dashboards.
- Apply data science techniques, leveraging tools such as SQL, Python, R, Power BI, Dataiku, machine learning, and deep learning to analyze, interpret, and present geospatial data.
- Support projects involving satellite imagery, aerial photos, and 3D data (like LiDAR), helping to extract useful information and insights.
- Utilize existing models that help predict outcomes or optimize processes, using a mix of geospatial analysis, statistics, and machine learning. May also build and document new models.
- Communicate results via presentations, documentation, roadshows, and visualizations.
- Manage and document departmental/corporate computer files and data libraries. Creates and maintains metadata for GIS features.
- Research and pilot innovative ideas, testing and evaluating new technologies.
- May require occasional work with outside consultants and agencies.
What It Takes To Succeed
- Demonstrated ability to independently manage personal workload, consistently meeting deadlines for both individual and collaborative projects.
- A strong understanding of geospatial data and spatial analysis and the ability to communicate complex data in a simplified manner.
- Ability to create compelling and informative maps, charts, and dashboards to effectively communicate insights derived from geospatial data and analyses.
- Programming proficiency in Python and/or R.
- Excellent oral and written communication skills.
- Strong problem-solving skills with a drive to learn and master new technologies and techniques.
- Discretion in working with corporate proprietary and confidential information used in environmental work, legal cases, water rights adjudication, and facility infrastructure as related to federal and state regulatory requirements (i.e. FERC, Homeland Security).
- GIS Certified Professional (GISP) preferred.
Experience
• For a Level 1 (Associate), a minimum of no previous years of experience to two years related experience is required (if no degree, four-six years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling four-six years). • For a Level 2 (Journey), a minimum of two years of experience to four years related experience is required (if no degree, six-eight years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling six-eight years). • For a Level 3 (Senior), a minimum of five years of related experience is required (if no degree, nine years of relevant experience or equivalent combination of education and related experience totaling nine years).
Education
A bachelor’s degree related to the assignment from an accredited institution is preferred.
Hybrid Workplace
SRP currently offers a hybrid workplace, which allows employees whose jobs can be performed remotely, and who have sufficient technical capability, to telework up to three days per week. Although teleworking is available, all employees must live and work in Arizona.
