Senior Data Engineer

Division – Data, Technology & Innovation

Department - Digital Systems

Salary - National (Edinburgh and Leeds) ranging from £52,400 to £75,900 and London from £57,000 to £83,450 per annum (salary offered will be based on skills and experience)

What will you be doing?

You will design and optimise data structures for products, refine data flows, and ensure outsourced teams follow data models and best practices. You'll collaborate closely with FCA Product Owners, Architects, and Data Engineers in other teams, along with Service Managers and third-party suppliers supporting development.

  • Define and maintain logical and physical data models across products, ensuring consistency and alignment with evolving product capabilities

  • Streamline end-to-end data flows, optimising data ingestion, transformation, storage and consumption for seamless operations

  • Collaborate with development teams to implement scalable and high-performance data integration patterns across APIs and services

  • Establish and uphold best practices for data quality, lineage, metadata and governance to drive accuracy and compliance

  • Lead the design and maintenance of source-of-truth datasets, enabling cross-product analytics and data-driven decision-making for stakeholders

  • Champion the adoption of cutting-edge data tooling, driving improvements in data observability, reliability and efficiency

Minimum

  • Experience in data engineering, modelling and API design, ensuring scalable and reusable data structures

  • Experience partnering with distributed teams to enhance data architecture and streamline pipeline efficiency

  • Experience creating and contributing to key data architecture artefacts, including ERDs, semantic layer designs, data flow documentation, API specs and metadata management

Essential

  • Strong commercial awareness with the ability to assess supplier technical proposals and drive cost-effective solutions

  • Expertise in designing, improving and implementing data models to optimise performance and reliability

  • Solid understanding of data lifecycle management, including retention policies and governance

Desirable

  • Knowledge of industry trends, standards and best practices in data engineering and data management

  • Certifications such as dbt Certified Developer, AWS Certified Data Engineer – Associate, Azure Data Engineer Associate, Google Professional Data Engineer, CDMP, etc

  • Experience with cloud data platforms, governance and observability to enhance reliability and performance
