Data Governance Lead

Verition Fund Management LLC (“Verition”) is a multi-strategy, multi-manager hedge fund founded in 2008.  Verition focuses on global investment strategies including Global Credit, Global Convertible, Volatility & Capital Structure Arbitrage, Event-Driven Investing, Equity Long/Short & Capital Markets Trading, and Global Quantitative Trading.

We are seeking an experienced Data Governance lead with technical skills and data architecture experience to report to the head of Data Technology. This role will help Verition assess our firms growing data structures by reviewing sources, producers/consumers, documenting flows, cataloging assets, understand our lineage and help navigate challenges that exist with our existing structures. Our firm has built a lot of systems and processes quickly due to growth. We need help rationalizing our controls, validations, handoffs, ownership and processing steps. This role will help us get a current state view our data flows and build a framework for us to discuss and review with stewards, owners, producers and consumers. This role will also require the ability to perform practical research and BA type work when problems arise. This will not be a hands-off role, but active in helping the firm solve problems.

Responsibilities:

• Data Governance SME: Requires practical experience with DG frameworks, tools and problem-solving techniques as recommendations and solutions will be needed (no other roles like this at the firm, so will act as a lead and point person in concert with head of data technology)
• Data Governance Framework: Need experience creating and managing governance committee meetings, prioritizing issues, working with senior stakeholders
• Data Asset Documentation & Cataloging Strategy
• Practical Application of Data Governance on Real Issues (will be working on real issues that require real solutions)
• Prioritization and Tracking of Progress: Will act as DG lead and must have Project Management skills to stay organized, prep agendas, notes, next steps, solutions
• Client Management: Ability to speak with Technology, Operations and Business teams to understand data usage, controls, gaps, and create plans for resolution to data challenges

Required Skills & Qualifications

• 7-10+ years of experience in a similar role
• Financial services experience necessary (Some understanding of Portfolio Management, Trading, Risk, Ref Data, Operations etc)
• Buy side experience (Multi Strat/Hedge Fund Preferred)
• Experience with Data Governance Practices/frameworks, documentation and related processes
• Experience with technical architecture and best practices
• Data Governance tools experience (catalog, data mngt, lineage etc.)
• System & Pipeline architecture
• Strong problem-solving and analytical mindset
• Excellent communication skills to work with stakeholders across technology, investment, and operations teams
• Ability to work in a fast-paced environment with tight deadlines
