Compensation: $132,200 - $160,000

*This range reflects Carestream’s good faith estimate to pay fairly as starting wage. Offers will be tailored within the range based on the selected candidate’s experience, industry knowledge, technical and communication skills, and other factors that may prove relevant during the interview process, as well as geographic market differentials for the position.

Position Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated and innovative Medical Imaging Research Scientist to drive the research and development of next-generation digital X-ray systems and components. You will collaborate closely with a multidisciplinary team of imaging scientists and engineers to develop advanced digital radiography technologies and solutions that address critical clinical needs. Key responsibilities include:
•    Driving the development of novel radiographic detectors and imaging system components.
•    Optimizing the entire imaging chain to balance patient dose and image quality.
•    Designing and assessing image processing algorithms for enhanced diagnostic performance.
•    Prototyping advanced digital X-ray imaging systems and partnering with clinical collaborators to assess effectiveness across a range of clinical applications.

Required Skills & Education:

Education/Experience

  • PhD or MS in experimental or medical physics, nuclear or high energy physics, biomedical engineering, or relevant fields.
  • 3+ years experience in medical imaging physics preferred.    

Key/Critical Competencies

  • Proven track record of analytical thinking, systematic and creative problem-solving, and innovation in the field of medical X-ray imaging.
  • Strong experience in medical imaging systems, including full imaging chain design, performance characterization, and optimization.
  • Deep understanding of established image quality metrics such as DQE, MTF, and NPS etc.
  • Familiarity with state-of-the-art image processing technologies and hands-on experience developing image processing algorithms for digital X-ray systems.
  • Background in 3D X-ray image acquisition and reconstruction techniques.
  • Proficiency in MATLAB is required; experience with C++ and Python is highly preferred.
  • Demonstrated ability to provide technical leadership, along with strong project leadership and interpersonal skills.
  • Effective team player with the ability to collaborate across disciplines, including research, product development, service, manufacturing, regulatory, marketing, quality, external customers, and clinical research partners.
  • Self-motivated and capable of working independently with minimal supervision; able to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong record of technical publications.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with artificial intelligence and machine learning techniques for imaging applications is preferred.
