The Data Operations Manager plays a critical role in enabling high-quality data delivery for Life Sciences customers. This role is responsible for scoping new assay and data product launches, documenting client requests via data transfer agreements, and maintaining up-to-date standards for Tempus data deliverables. The Data Operations Manager partners with cross-functional teams to define requirements, coordinate project timelines, and ensure seamless execution of new offerings. Additional responsibilities include execution of complex deliveries involving key molecular biomarkers from sequencing, troubleshooting various data-related issues, and supporting client data pipeline audits.

Responsibilities

  • Act as a cross-functional resource on data quality and integrity, supporting internal teams with expertise in data maintenance and governance
  • Own and maintain documentation and process standards for internal workflows and emerging molecular data products, ensuring alignment across business units
  • Lead engagement with customers during audits, representing Tempus’ data pipelines and operational processes with clarity and accuracy
  • Translate client requirements into actionable plans by partnering with data quality teams to scope and deliver tailored solutions for high-impact customers
  • Leverage SQL to assess feasibility of custom data solutions and proactively troubleshoot data quality issues
  • Partners with clients to align their oncology research goals with Tempus' precision medicine tools and analytics, leveraging scientific expertise to drive impact
  • Facilitate the scoping process for new assay launches including requirements gathering, risk assessment, and timeline development
  • Support accurate and timely execution of data deliverables for our Life Sciences sequencing collaborations

Minimum Qualifications

  • 3+ years of experience managing data workflows, process improvements, or operational support in a commercial or laboratory environment
  • Knowledge of genomic healthcare data including molecular sequencing results and clinical patient information
  • Clear communication and presentation skills, can articulate complex issues concisely
  • Understanding of statistical concepts and data analysis techniques
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Good communication and interpersonal skills
  • Experience with data validation, cleaning, and query resolution
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel for data entry and simple analysis
  • Ability to work independently to solve issues and drive projects forward
  • Experience working with and managing external clients and stakeholders
  • Adept at fostering relationships and working with diverse teams across the business

Preferred Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience overseeing data management, process optimization, or operational support in a fast-paced industry environment
  • 2+ years of experience using SQL for basic data pulls, reporting, and database management
  • 1+ years of hands-on experience with enterprise cloud computing and storage platforms (AWS, GCP etc)
  • Advanced Excel ability
  • CRO experience and knowledge of the oncology space
  • Knowledge of clinical trials and regulatory requirements

Illinois Salary Range: $80,000-$120,000

The expected salary range above is applicable if the role is performed from Illinois and may vary for other locations (California, Colorado, New York). Actual salary may vary based on qualifications and experience. Tempus offers a full range of benefits, which may include incentive compensation, restricted stock units, medical and other benefits depending on the position.
