Through the National Shipbuilding Strategy (NSS), the Government of Canada has embarked on one of the largest procurement projects since the Second World War. The NSS is a nation-building effort to create a sustainable Canadian shipbuilding industry, secure long-term job opportunities and build the next generation of ships for the Canadian Coast Guard and Royal Canadian Navy. Through its NSS–related work, Seaspan Shipyards is owning the redevelopment of our domestic shipbuilding industry on the West Coast and delivering on the promise of ships built in Canada, by Canadians.

The Intern, Business Technology Solutions works assist with business system related projects, which will vary in size, duration and complexity. Using a variety of data sources, facilitation and interview techniques, the Intern will help guide business stakeholders through the discovery, identification and documentation of business data quality issues, provide data remediation services and develop on going monitoring of data quality for business critical data sets.

Note: Due to business needs, this position is required to be fully on-site based at Harbourside Drive, North Vancouver. 

What you’ll do 

  • Serve as a subject matter expert (SME) in data quality, supporting business teams in accessing, utilizing and interpreting data, as well as understanding metrics and reporting requirements.
  • Define and implement data quality metrics and standards to ensure data integrity.
  • Responsible for implementing corrective actions to address the identified data quality issues for data sets with Business Team’s
  • Conduct root cause analysis of data quality issues, recommending corrective actions and preventive measures.
  • Drive continuous improvement in data management practices to enhance the reliability of data for decision-making.
  • Monitor adherence to established data quality metrics, ensuring accuracy, completeness, consistency, and timeliness of data.

What you’ll bring 

  • Completing a Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Engineering, or a related field. Equivalent combinations of education and work experience will also be considered. 
  • Experience in business analytics, statistical analytics, KPI development, and metrics reporting, preferably in a financial, or metric analysis on multiple data repositories. 
  • Strong experience working with data and databases, including programming languages and data science tools such as SQL and Python. 
  • Thorough understanding database structure, business object models, and large-scale data processing techniques. 
  • Strong knowledge of data visualization.
  • Advanced skills in MS Excel including pivots, macros, and charts. 
  • Demonstrates data analytic skills, including the ability to merge multiple data sources, address incomplete data, problem-solve to fill gaps, and provide meaningful solutions. 
  • Proficient in technical communication, including documenting and communicating complex data structures and process maps in a clear and concise manner. 
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with strong interpersonal abilities. 
  • Well-developed organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize various work assignments. 
  • Outstanding time management skills and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision. 
  • Demonstration of outstanding business ethics, integrity, and honesty in all situations. 
  • Solid critical thinking, problem solving and multi-tasking skills.

We require a full-time commitment Monday-Friday, 40 hours per week with an hourly rate of $26.00/hour.

Start Date of Internship: Monday, September 8th, 2025. 

End Date of Internship: Friday, December 19th, 2025.
