Wells Fargo is seeking a Principal Engineer for Risk and Internal Audit (RIAT) Architecture to lead the analysis, design and implementation of modern technology solutions aimed at supporting Risk Management activities across the lines of defenses. The Principal Engineer will be a passionate technologist, expert in solution architecture practice, and has the experience to operate across a matrixed enterprise with strong written and verbal skills. The candidate must be able to work effectively in a rapidly changing environment, stay in lockstep with evolving modern technologies, and possess sound judgment, hands-on experimentation and reasoning skills.
As a leader, you will be responsible for producing, managing and overseeing architecture strategy, consulting with engineering leaders, and ensuring alignment with business objectives and modernization objectives.
In this role, you will:
- Act as an advisor to business and engineering leadership to develop or influence platform, application, network, information security, database, operating systems, or web technologies for highly complex business and technical needs across multiple groups
- Lead the strategy and resolution of highly complex and unique challenges requiring in-depth evaluation across multiple areas or the enterprise, delivering solutions that are long-term, large-scale and require vision, creativity, innovation, advanced analytical and inductive thinking
- Translate advanced technology experience, an in-depth knowledge of the organizations tactical and strategic business objectives, the enterprise technological environment, the organization structure, and strategic technological opportunities and requirements into technical engineering solutions
- Provide vision, direction and expertise to leadership on implementing innovative and significant business solutions
- Maintain knowledge of industry best practices and new technologies and recommends innovations that enhance operations or provide a competitive advantage to the organization
- Define and drive end to end ecosystem architectures that anchor business capabilities to core platform and vision that align with forward looking Architecture principals, data management and modern technology
- Identify gaps and opportunities in the current state architecture, propose effective, efficient and decisive architectures to meet immediate, target and strategic state.
- Adapt to and influence established Risk Management and Enterprise technology strategies
- Drive efforts to ensure resiliency, fault tolerance, and performance of architecture solutions
- Drive architecture strategy by adopting and advancing non-functional requirements and drive strategies to uphold NFR's through automation and frameworks
- Stay abreast of technology innovations and industry best practices
- Develop and maintain a robust architecture framework for modeling and analyzing risk, integrating large datasets, and leveraging advanced analytics and AI/ML techniques
- Ensure all applicable solutions integrate and are built with scalability, security, and performance in mind
- Conduct architecture assessments, suggest performance and other tunings, and provide technical thought leadership for continuous improvements across the ecosystem
- Stay up-to-date, drive POC and recommend innovative solutions with leading industry trends
Required Qualifications:
7+ years of Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
- 7+ years of experience with solution design and architecting enterprise platforms
- 7+ years of experience driving data strategies and creating roadmaps
- 5+ years of experience designing, implementing or managing risk management solutions (Basel III, IFRS9, CECL, or CCAR etc.)
- 3+ years of experience with financial risk management functions (such as credit risk management, market risk management, and/or financial crimes risk management)
- 2+ years of experience with architecting platforms using Artificial Intelligence (AI) capabilities
Desired Qualifications:
- Deep knowledge of modern technical frameworks using open-source technologies and delivering containerized solutions
- Expertise in producing detailed architecture consisting of and explaining various layers such as hosting, infrastructure, security, software and services, application design.
- Deep understanding and ability to influence enterprise data strategies with acumen to produce, manage and drive an efficient architecture
- Ability to effectively assess stakeholder, partner, or client needs while consulting, building solutions, and developing processes
- Expertise with cloud native services, hosting architecture and solution design.
- 3+ years of experience with GCP (Google Cloud) and MS Azure is preferred
- 5+ years of solution architecture expertise building enterprise grade solutions leveraging vendor products.
- Demonstrated hands-on technical expertise with modern programming languages (Java, Python. Scala), distributed systems (Hadoop, Spark, Kafka), and containerization (Docket, Kubernetes)
- 2+ years of experience building and implementing Gen AI and Agentic AI architectures
- 5+ years of experience with Redhat OpenShift or other cloud computing technologies
- Strong experience with data modelling, ETL processes, and leveraging data science techniques to support risk analytics
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related field
- Ability to lead technology and business partners through the journey from current to target state with ability to manage detailed architecture vision, efficiency metrices and benefits
- Expertise to strategically engage with all levels of professionals and managers across the enterprise and serve as an expert advisor to leadership

Pay Range
Reflected is the base pay range offered for this position. Pay may vary depending on factors including but not limited to achievements, skills, experience, or work location. The range listed is just one component of the compensation package offered to candidates.
$144,400.00 - $300,000.00Benefits
