Salary:  $135,000 - $150,000

The Senior Software Engineer – NOMA will join a high-impact data product team focused on modernizing an intelligent financial opportunity engine used across Compass and Foodbuy. This is a rare opportunity to take ownership of a large-scale system rewrite with cloud-native tools, work with passionate onshore and offshore engineers, and collaborate directly with business stakeholders to bring ideas to life.

As a technical individual contributor (with optional growth into management), you’ll work across our data engineering, rules processing, and application enhancement layers. You’ll have strong influence over architecture and implementation patterns as we transform our system to be more intuitive, flexible, and insight-driven — adding support for data science, self-service rules management, and modern cloud analytics workflows.

What You'll Do

• Enhance and maintain our current Scala- and Python-based rules engine that interfaces with MongoDB and AWS (EMR, EC2)
• Support and optimize the monthly run support process, which includes ETL orchestration, data validation, and delivery of insights to internal stakeholders
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams including onshore/offshore developers, data engineers, analysts, and business users to improve performance, usability, and stability
• Lead technical design for a long term rewrite of our core financial opportunity engine — using modern cloud and data stack components (Snowflake a plus)
• Redesign and improve the user experience of internal tooling for rules management, reporting, and exception handling
• Serve as a technical lead in discussions with Product, Data Science, and Engineering partners — bringing clarity to business use cases and translating them into engineering solutions
• Contribute to roadmap planning and sprint prioritization while mentoring more junior engineers 

What You'll Need

• 5+ years of software engineering experience, preferably in data-centric environments
• Proven expertise in:
• Python – data processing, backend logic
• SQL – complex queries, optimization
• Apache Spark – for distributed data processing (EMR experience a plus)
• AWS – especially EC2, EMR, S3, Lambda, and Step Functions
• ETL orchestration – Airflow, dbt, or similar
• Scala – helpful for legacy support and future transition
• MongoDB – used in business rule configuration and execution
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work with stakeholders across business and tech
• Prior experience with legacy-to-modern system migration is a strong plus
• Passion for building intuitive systems and solving complex business challenges
• Experience working in a collaborative agile team and across time zones
• Excitement for a hybrid role that spans infrastructure, back-end logic, and stakeholder-facing feature development
