Job Description

The Real Estate Business Intelligence Analyst is one of the key direct reports to the Senior Manager of Data Analytics within the Public Storage’s Real Estate division. The Real Estate division is responsible for underwriting, financial planning and analysis, and accounting related to the company’s growing acquisitions, development, redevelopment, and lending platform. The role will require strong acumen in working with a variety of software and database applications to develop analytical models, dashboards, and other tools that enhance all aspects of our investment and reporting process. This dynamic role demands adaptability to shifting priorities and the ability to work with imperfect or fragmented data sources, transforming them into clean, actionable insights that meet diverse stakeholder needs.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain critical financial data infrastructure by updating key financial tables following monthly corporate close processes and building upload files for external systems like WorkDay
  • Automate data collection and processing through Python scripts that extract data from third-party websites and consolidate information from multiple sources into centralized SSMS database tables
  • Deliver complex ad hoc analysis for cross-functional teams (tax, finance, operations) with quick turnaround times, often requiring creative solutions for non-standard data requests
  • Identify areas of process improvement and execute on projects to improve existing analytical methods and used in the real estate investment process, as well as for FP&A and reporting functions
  • Partner with IT and business stakeholders to identify automation opportunities and reduce manual data processing across departments
  • Analyze economic, industry, and competitor data to provide perspective on markets, trends, and other qualitative and quantitative insights that may impact investment decisions
  • Ensure data accuracy and integrity across all reporting systems while managing competing priorities and tight deadlines

Qualifications

  • 2 - 4 years of analytical experience
  • BS in Mathematics, Economics, Computer Science, Information Management or Statistics is preferred
  • Proficiency in SQL, Power BI or Tableau, with a working knowledge of Python
  • Strong technical expertise in data models, database design, and analytical methods with exceptional attention to detail and accuracy
  • Solid understanding of statistics and experience using statistical packages to analyze datasets (Excel, SPSS, SAS etc)
  • Self-driven and results-oriented with a proven track record of turning complex data into actional business strategies
  • Familiarity with real estate metrics (NOI, cap rates, IRR) preferred
