The Berkshire Hathaway Group of Insurance Companies is looking for an actuarial analyst to support functions at the insurtech initiatives biBerk (www.biberk.com) and THREE (www.threeinsurance.com). This person will be part of a small, fast-paced team and gain exposure to many parts of the company and insurance product. The ideal candidate will be able to juggle multiple priorities with accuracy and have an entrepreneurial spirit. They will support Pricing, Business Analysis and Product Development units and serve as a technical resource in the development and testing of rating and policy administration systems for assigned lines of business.

This job is hybrid with 2 mandatory in-office days per week (Tuesday & Wednesday) at our Stamford, CT location.

Job Responsibilities

  • Work alongside actuaries and product manager of Commercial Auto and/or Businessowners lines.
  • Prepare indications and supporting documentation for rate filings, as well as responding to questions from regulators.
  • Prepare quarterly profitability studies.
  • Evaluate existing and new rating variables to improve the product.
  • Evaluate third party data for use in underwriting and pricing.
  • Perform competitive analysis for both pricing and coverage.
  • Maintain company pricing tables and premium at present rates program.
  • Monitor underwriting application actions and suggest changes to streamline the process.
  • Additional duties as assigned such as special actuarial projects, monitoring regulatory and legislative activities, corresponding with insurance departments, data science projects, etc.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in mathematics or related field or equivalent experience
  • 2 or more passed actuarial exams
  • 2 or more years in Commercial Auto or Property and General Liability experience
  • Advanced use of Excel
  • Proficient in SQL
  • Experience coding in Python
  • Excellent oral and written communication
  • Be able to work independently and as part of a team
  • Some experience in predictive modeling techniques preferred
  • A curiosity and passion for actuarial work

In accordance with pay transparency laws and regulations, the following good faith compensation range estimate is being provided.  The salary range for this position is $85,000 to $125,000 per year.  Final compensation will be based on candidate qualifications, geographic location, and other considerations permitted by law.
