Job Description

Data Analyst SR. is a key part of the Store Operations Shrink and RFID Team, responsible for managing the execution of large-scale projects that deliver significant business value to Nordstrom and its customers. This role will partner closely with the Asset Protection (AP), Product, Technology, and Enterprise Operations organizations for Store Operations (SO) as the primary resource for analyzing shrink signals enabled by RFID and inventory health. The position will also lead and support current tactic measurement and new tactic strategy deployment to stores utilizing the Golden Data Set as a resource.  

The Data Analyst SR will triangulate data between shrink impact, labor impact, and sales impact at various levels including company, region, district, market, and store. This data will be used to identify new tactics that require measurement and testing. The analyst will communicate with cross-functional teams and end users to make informed decisions and monitor the progress of projects, ensuring they stay on schedule. Additionally, the analyst will ensure the coordination and completion of projects on time, within budget, and within scope. Responsibilities include setting deadlines, assigning tasks, and monitoring and summarizing project progress. The analyst will prepare reports and present project status to management, using storytelling techniques to effectively share insights with different audiences such as the executive team, sponsors, and store-level and regional stakeholders. 

 

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Lead the collection, integration, and analysis of diverse data sources (e.g., RFID signals, inventory metrics, sales data)  

  • Drive analysis with minimal oversight, applying strong business acumen to shape inquiries and deliver nuanced, decision-ready insights 

  • Proactively move from insights to implications, drafting compelling leadership-ready storylines 

  • Provide expertise in key senior leadership forums to support decision-making around tactical shrink activations aimed at addressing root cause 

  • Monitor Shrink signals weekly and share insights that lead to the root cause 

  • Acquire and transform data to support ongoing and ad hoc insights and analysis 

  • Perform measurement analysis, identify underperforming tactics, and contextualize results for actioning 

  • Align cross-functional teams to tasks and identify employees best positioned to complete them. 

  • Make effective decisions when presented with multiple options for project progression. 

  • Communicate status, issues, and/or changes with stakeholders down to the executive level to keep the project aligned with their goals. 

  • Adjust schedules and targets on the project as needs or financing change. 

  • Manage full project lifecycle (requirements, scope, schedule, resources, testing, quality, release, costs, changes) for cross-functional initiatives. 

  • Demonstrate understanding and curiosity about modern business enterprises and the problems they encounter. 

  • Conduct complex statistical analyses to identify measure, and conduction experimentation on new tactics  

  • Look into new tactic deployment, measurement and testing for stores based on insights.  

  • Set requirements for goals/targets and project manage to achieve financial milestones. 

  • Ongoing phasing and continuous improvement. 

  • Manage stakeholders on upkeep of data sources. 

  • Manage individual to multiple highly complex projects. 

  • Work directly to resolve individual workstream breakdowns  

  • Master project management concepts, theories, and principles with business insights and apply them to projects. 

  • Create long- and short-term plans, including setting targets for milestones and adhering to deadlines. 

  • Perform quality control on the project throughout development to identify problems and solutions to maintain expected standards. 

 

QUALIFICATIONS: 

 

  • Bachelor’s degree in a quantitative field; advanced degree a plus. 

  • 5+ years of related work experience extracting, manipulating, and analyzing data and delivering business insights. 

  • Expert in SQL with demonstrated ability to write repeatable and robust code, applying advanced database concepts of optimization and design, and acquiring data from multiple sources efficiently. 

  • Expert knowledge of at least one programming language to aid analysis, modeling, and automation, with the ability to choose the right tool for the context and assess trade-offs. 

  • Ability to creatively & effectively apply descriptive and inferential statistical methods to answer complex business questions. 

  • Ability to conduct analyses with complex analytical storytelling & recommendations by creating a narrative that can be used by business to enact change.  

  • Experience using visualizations to summarize large amounts of data & highlight key insights for stakeholders. Combines statistical knowledge with graphical design to create informative, compelling visualizations. 

  • Experience related to Brick-and-Mortar Retailer.

The pay range(s) below has been provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different for other locations. 
Pay offers are dependent on the location, as well as job-related knowledge, skills, and experience.

$121,000.00 - $199,000.00 Annual

This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more.
