About the role: 

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Analyst to join the Ocado Technology Analytics team on a permanent basis. This role plays a critical part in supporting Technology Operations by leveraging data to drive operational efficiency, reduce costs, and support continuous improvement across our Customer Fulfilment Centres (CFCs) and OMRS (Ocado Mobile Robot System).

As part of the Off Grid sub-stream within the TechOps Analytics function, you will develop logic to measure the performance of our Material Handling Equipment and Third Party Equipment, supporting to improve the service provided to our partners and reduce the operational costs associated with running them.

You will also generate insights into other key areas across our operation, ensuring our sites can run efficiently, safely and ensuring that we have the right data and metrics to correctly forecast and estimate future costs and performance.

You’ll work closely with stakeholders from our Engineering, Product Development, and Engineering Operations departments, playing a key role in delivering integrated analytics solutions that align with Ocado’s mission and operational goals. Role and responsibilities include:

  • Collaborating with stakeholders to understand operational challenges, define analytical needs, and develop data-driven solutions with measurable impact
  • Using data, context and business knowledge to collaborate with subject matter experts, developing logic from low-level data to calculate metrics and key performance indicators which best describe processes and support actionable outcomes.
  • Designing and developing scalable, intuitive dashboards and reporting tools using Ocado’s approved tech stack
  • Automating reporting processes and partnering with Data Engineers to ensure data pipelines are reliable, scalable, and production-ready
  • Leading end-to-end analytics projects, from data scoping and cleansing through to insight generation, stakeholder engagement, and impact validation
  • Applying agile project management practices to prioritise tasks based on business value and adapt to evolving stakeholder requirements

What we’re looking for:

  • 2+ years of experience in a data analyst or similar analytical role
  • Proven experience in a data analyst role, delivering actionable insights and supporting operational decision-making
  • Strong proficiency in SQL for data extraction, transformation, and analysis across large and complex datasets
  • Experience building dashboards and data visualisations using tools such as Looker or similar
  • Solid understanding of statistical analysis techniques and data storytelling
  • Ability to translate business problems into analytical questions and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders
  • Comfortable working with ambiguity and navigating cross-functional collaboration across operational, engineering, and product teams
  • Strong organisational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities in an agile environment

Desirable:

  • Experience with experimentation and hypothesis testing
  • Experience working with Google BigQuery and Looker
  • Familiarity with Python or other scripting languages
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (e.g., GCP, AWS, Azure) and version control systems (e.g., GitLab, GitHub)
  • Experience working in agile development environments
  • A first-class or 2:1 degree in a highly numerate or analytical subject (e.g., mathematics, economics, statistics, data science, operational research, psychology, or similar)
