Senior Machine Learning Platform Engineer (Hybrid)

The Opportunity

Join us in revolutionizing healthcare for rural America! We’re seeking a Machine Learning Platform Engineer who is driven by the opportunity to create meaningful societal impact by addressing health inequities in underserved communities. As an early hire on our team, you lay the foundation for how ML is built and scaled at Homeward. You’ll partner directly with engineering, data, and product teams to create systems that support meaningful, real-world healthcare outcomes.

What You’ll Do:

• Design and build ML platform infrastructure to support experimentation, training, and evaluation at scale.
• Create internal tools and APIs to help data scientists work more efficiently.
• Build components for feature engineering, data access, and pipeline orchestration - integrating with Snowflake, dbt, and using AWS-native tools.
• Work closely with engineering and data teams to make ML workflows seamless and robust.
• Evaluate and integrate third-party solutions (e.g., SageMaker, MLflow, Feature Stores) where appropriate.
• Define the architecture and best practices for ML development at Homeward—from experimentation to handoff (not deployment).

What You Bring:

• 5+ years of experience building ML platforms or scalable infrastructure in a production setting.
• Strong software engineering skills, especially in Python, and familiarity with ML frameworks (e.g., PyTorch, TensorFlow, XGBoost).
• Deep experience with AWS services: SageMaker, S3, Lambda, Step Functions, etc.
• A strong sense of ownership and a collaborative mindset; you enjoy building clean, reliable internal platforms others rely on.
• Interest in shaping the future of ML at a mission-driven startup.

Bonus Points If You Have:

• Experience supporting ML in healthcare, regulated data (HIPPA, PHI)
• Familiarity with tools like MLflow, Metaflow, or open-source feature stores.

Compensation may vary outside of this range depending on a number of factors, including a candidate’s qualifications, skills, location, competencies and experience. Base pay is one part of the Total Package that is provided to compensate and recognize employees for their work at Homeward Health. This role is eligible for an annual bonus, stock options, as well as a comprehensive benefits package.
