Job Overview

FBD requires an experienced and hands-on Data Analytics Manager with strong business data, analytic and insurance skills to lead a team of data analysts within the Underwriting function. This is an exciting opportunity (Reporting to the Head of Product) for an ambitious career orientated person to provide insights to support development of FBD’s strategic ambition.

Job Responsibilities

Team Leadership

  • Manage a small team of data analysts, setting priorities, overseeing workload, and ensuring delivery aligns with department and business needs.
  • Develop the team’s understanding of insurance products and portfolios to build analytical capability and broad product knowledge.

Business Insight & Performance

  • Lead the identification and analysis of trends, risks, and opportunities across the product portfolios.
  • Collaborate with product managers to develop actionable insights and drive underwriting performance.
  • Report on key metrics, KPIs, and reinsurance activity to support strategic decision-making.

Job Responsibilities

Analysis & Reporting

  • Hands-on with data analysis, dashboard/report creation, and performance tracking.
  • Work with business units to develop, maintain, and optimise MI and reporting tools for portfolio management, conduct risk, QA, and audit purposes.
  • Support cross-functional initiatives and deliver data-driven solutions by gathering requirements and consulting on systems and tools.

Process & Systems Development

  • Implement improved analytical methods, reporting processes, and automation initiatives.
  • Ensure tools and reports are robust, documented, and continuously optimised.
  • Work closely with operations, finance, actuarial, and claims to ensure alignment and integration of best practices.

Education

  • 5 years+ Data/Portfolio analysis experience in General Insurance (Commercial Insurance experience an advantage)
  • Qualifications: BSc in mathematics, statistics, or a quantitative discipline.
  • Achievement of professional insurance qualification qualified to minimum level of Certified Insurance Practitioner (CIP). ACII is desirable.

Experiences

  • Experience with SQL, Power BI, Alteryx, Tableau or other data analysis tools
  • Advanced Excel skills
  • Familiarity with ETL processes and tools

  • Strong analytical, investigative and problem-solving skills
  • Strong understanding of general insurance products, underwriting processes and portfolio performance drivers.
  • Ability to successfully work across all levels of the organisation and manage relationships with other business units
  • Ability to work under pressure, handle complex change and prioritise key activities
  • Excellent communication and storytelling skills, with the ability to translate data into business insights
  • Proactive and strategic thinker, able to identify and act on opportunities for improvement.
