Job Description SummaryThe role of Data Engineer in data governance as part of the GE Vernova Data and Analytics team would be responsible for developing, testing, and implementing data engineering and analytical solutions to ensure implementation of defined data security and regulatory controls in the Data and Analytics environment. The role would be responsible for analyzing and documenting the status of general IT controls including those related to identity management and change control.

Roles and Responsibilities

In this role, you will:

  • Perform data profiling and data analysis for reviewing compliance to access management and review requirements for D&A applications.
  • Partner with platform and security teams to define the scope of and implement the identity management related controls.
  • Initiate and implement all the steps required for periodic access reviews as part of regulatory requirements such as SOX and GDPR.
  • Implement the processes for and inventory of non-personal accounts and their vaulting and password rotation.
  • Implement Data Validation solutions for tracking integrity of data in the data lake for SOX compliance purposes.
  • Implement automated monitoring solutions for tracking compliance to regulatory requirements and design governance standards.
  • Leverage technical data dictionaries and business glossaries to analyze the datasets.
  • Build automated extract, transform & load (ETL) jobs based on data mapping specifications.
  • Responsible for implementing standards & standard work

Desired Characteristics

Technical Expertise:

  • Understanding of the standard IT controls and their implications on data protection
  • Ability to understand logical and physical data models, big data storage architecture, data modelling methodologies, metadata management, master data management & data lineage techniques.
  • Familiarity with Lakehouse Data Architecture, including basic understanding of platforms such as Databricks.
  • Hands-on experience in programming languages like Java, Python or Scala
  • Experience in handling both Online Transaction Processing (OLTP) and Online Analytical Processing (OLAP) data models
  • Exposure to unstructured datasets and ability to handle XML, JSON file formats.
  • Exposure to Extract, Transform & Load (ETL) tools like Informatica or Talend.
  • Exposure to AWS services like S3, Athena, Lambda, Kinesis, EC2/RDS etc.

Leadership skills:

  • Partner with other team members to understand the project objectives and resolve technical issues
  • Communicate project status or challenges in a clear and concise manner to the cross team members
