The Role
You will play a critical role in developing data-driven solutions to solve complex challenges within the legal sector, delivering real business value to Linklaters and its clients.
Key responsibilities:
- Assist in developing, testing, and refining data science models using established methods such as classification, regression, clustering, and natural language processing.
- Work closely with senior data scientists, legal practice teams, and business stakeholders to understand requirements and contribute to use case development.
- Support the preparation and cleaning of structured and unstructured data for analysis using Python and SQL.
- Contribute to exploratory data analysis (EDA) to uncover patterns and trends relevant to legal and business questions.
- Develop well-documented Python scripts and notebooks for reproducible analysis and insights.
- Help build and test machine learning pipelines in alignment with the firm’s Azure-based architecture.
- Use Power BI or other data visualisation tools to support storytelling and insight delivery.
- Follow best practices in code versioning using Azure DevOps and assist in maintaining collaborative code repositories.
- Support the testing and monitoring of deployed models to ensure performance and compliance with ethical and legal standards.
- Participate in knowledge sharing, training, and documentation to support data literacy across the firm.
About You
Educational Background & Professional Experience:
- Bachelor’s or master’s degree in a quantitative field such as Data Science, Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Engineering.
- Up to 2 years of experience in a data science or data analytics role, including internships or academic projects.
- Experience working in environments with sensitive data or professional services is a plus but not essential.
- Ability to break down complex technical concepts for non-technical audiences.
- Strong collaboration and communication skills, with an eagerness to learn and contribute within a team setting.
Technical Experience:
- Proficient in Python for data analysis, including use of key libraries (e.g. Pandas, NumPy, Scikit-learn, Matplotlib).
- Good working knowledge of SQL for querying and transforming structured data.
- Basic understanding of common machine learning techniques and ability to implement them in Python.
- Exposure to Azure ecosystem (e.g., Azure Machine Learning, Azure Blob Storage, Azure Synapse, or Databricks on Azure) is desirable.
- Familiarity with version control and collaborative coding workflows (e.g., Git, Azure DevOps).
- Experience with Power BI or similar tools to produce interactive dashboards or visualisations.
- Understanding of responsible AI principles, including transparency and model explainability, is a plus.
