Data Governance Scientist

Amalgamated Bank is seeking a Data Governance/Scientist to join the Information Technology Team that will play a crucial supporting role to the Data Governance team. This position will report to our Head of Governance and is expected to report in-office 3 days per week.

Essential Job Functions:

Data Governance & Quality: 

• Develop and implement data governance frameworks, ensuring compliance with banking regulations.
• Establish data quality metrics, validation rules, and anomaly detection to maintain data integrity.
• Monitor data lineage, metadata management, and access controls.  

Regulatory Compliance & Security:  

• Ensure adherence to GDPR, CCPA, GLBA, and other financial data regulations.  
• Partner with risk and compliance teams to mitigate data risks and maintain secure data environments.  

Data Science & Analytics:  

• Utilize machine learning models and AI techniques to enhance data validation, detect fraud, and automate governance processes.  
• Perform advanced statistical analyses to optimize data management strategies.  
• Collaborate with business units to improve decision-making through data-driven insights.  

Collaboration & Communication:  

• Work closely with data engineers, IT, compliance officers, and executives to align data governance strategies with business goals.
• Advocate for a data-driven culture, promoting best practices in data stewardship across the organization.  

Knowledge, Skills and Experience Requirements:

Master’s degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Finance, or a related field.  

• 3+ years of experience in data governance, data science, or analytics within financial services or banking.  

Technical Skills:

• Proficiency in SQL, Python, or R for data analysis and governance automation.
• Experience with data governance tools (Unity Catalog, Purview, or others).  
• Familiarity with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud) and database management.
• Knowledge of machine learning techniques for anomaly detection and data quality improvement.  

Soft Skills:

• Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to interpret complex data governance requirements.  
• Excellent communication skills to collaborate across departments and explain data policies to stakeholders.  

 

Preferred Qualifications:  

• Experience in banking or financial services data governance.  
• Understanding of risk management and compliance frameworks in finance.  
• Certifications such as CDMP (Certified Data Management Professional) or DAMA are a plus.  

Our job titles may span more than one career level. The starting base salary for this role is between $155,000.00 – $170,000.00. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: training, transferrable skills, work experience, business needs and market demands. The base pay range is subject to change and may be modified in the future.

Hybrid Work Model
Effective February 18, 2025, employees in office-based positions will be working a Hybrid work schedule consisting of three days or more, on-site per week, Monday - Thursday, although the specific days may vary by site or organization, with Friday designated as a remote-working day, unless business critical tasks require an on-site presence.
