Data Engineer

Business Description

At Verisk we create sophisticated risk models to assist insurers with risk selection and pricing. Our range of models span residential and commercial property perils as well as motor vehicle. To feed our models we source diverse datasets covering high resolution weather data, property and vehicles attributes, business activities, financial data, insurance data and geodemographic data. 

Role Purpose 

We are looking for a motivated, independent, and well organised individual with experience of developing ETL processes using AWS services and multiple database technologies. The role also involves task management, ensuring the sourcing of data, dealing with 3rd parties and follow through the full data life cycle.

The data engineer will be responsible for the ETL processes as well as managing and supporting the full data cycle, from sourcing the data to ensuring its correct processing along with providing 2nd Line support on any data queries from our customers and suppliers received via our Customer Support team.

The role will rely on high levels of automation and a strong attention to detail to making sure that our processes flow smoothly and are effective.  The postholder will work with our Analytics, Product,  Development and Customer Support teams to ensure the data is processed according to requirements. 

• Ownership of the full data lifecycle, from sourcing to processing to delivery.

• Establishing ETL processes for new datasets including full validation and data quality assessments. 

• Supporting and the operation of data processes.

• Working with wider Verisk teams to improve the processes.

• Extracting data for prospective customers to test models.

• Providing 2nd Line Support for Data related queries.

• At least 3 years experience in a data management role including experience of developing ETL pipelines ideally in AWS ecosystem.

• University degree in information technology or similar

• Experience in:

  • Dealing with 3rd party data vendors.

  • Defining data process improvement and requirements.

  • Providing 2nd Line Support to both internal and external stakeholders, tailoring technical solutions/resolutions to meet the audience.

  • Working with data, including processes for data validation and quality control.

  • The use of visualization tools (PowerBI/Tableau).

  • How to use automation to achieve processing scalability and speed. 

• Relational Database Management Systems (RDBMS), SQL, NoSQL (DynamoDb, Redshift)

• Python and or .net programming or similar and interfacing with RDBMS 

This is a hybrid role, requiring a minimum of two days per week onsite at our Krakow office.
