Job Summary: The PsychEMERGE Network is seeking postdoctoral fellows to work at the Icahn School of Medicine in the Davis lab. We are seeking highly motivated individuals with knowledge of human genetics, informatics, or computational biology, and a strong sense of scientific curiosity, to join our community. In addition to these qualifications, the ideal candidate will have strong written and oral communication skills, excellent organizational skills, and a high level of personal integrity.

PsycheMERGE is a network of eleven academic medical centers that collaborate to advance psychiatric genomics research by leveraging electronic health records and biobanks. Research within the network utilizes large high dimensional data sets including genomic data (i.e., array-based genotyping, CNV, sequencing), transcriptomic data (i.e., RNA sequencing), and phenomic data (i.e., longitudinal electronic health records). Activities include phenome-wide, polygenic, and multivariate analyses to answer fundamental questions about genotype-phenotype relationships, comorbidity patterns, and developmental trajectories in the context of psychiatric disorders. Another major goal of the network is the development of machine learning approaches for phenotyping and risk prediction algorithms across multiple psychiatric and neurodevelopmental disorders.

This is an exciting opportunity for someone who enjoys collaborative science, big data, analytic challenges, and human genomics. The ideal candidate will enjoy working in a fast-paced, intellectually exciting environment as an integral part of a highly motivated team of colleagues. Excellent communication, organizational skills, and friendly demeanor are essential. We are passionate about seeking a deeper understanding of psychiatry through genomics. If you meet the qualifications, are scientifically curious, and are eager for responsibility, we invite you to apply!

Responsibilities will include:

  1. Contributing to the intellectual environment of the lab and the PsychEMERGE network.
  2. Conducting rigorous statistical analyses under the guidance of project PIs.
  3. Disseminating findings at regular lab meetings, conference calls, national and international meetings, and through publications.
  4. Assisting with visualization of data for manuscripts, grants, and presentations.
  5. Assisting with grant writing.
  6. Providing guidance to graduate and undergraduate students.
  7. Maintaining transparent analysis practices (i.e., GitHub, BitBucket, Jupyter Notebook)

Job Qualifications: Applicant must hold a PhD in a relevant field (genomics, informatics, data science, applied mathematics, biostatistics, etc.). Strong knowledge of complex trait genomics is preferred. Computational and statistical genomics experience is preferred. Experience working in a unix/linux cluster environment using programming languages such as R, python, perl, Julia, and/or matlab is required.
