The Software and Societal Systems Department (S3D), in the School of Computer Science, at Carnegie Mellon University is looking for a Adjunct Professor for summer and fall semester 2025 for our Masters of Software Engineering Program.
The Adjunct Professor will contribute to planning, preparation and delivery of the Product Management Essentials I course, 17-619 for master's level students at CMU.
This position will be responsible for:
'1. Design and develop interactive, hands-on workshop sessions with scaffolded activities where students will use AI to apply what they’re learning in the course, evaluate their results, and iterate to improve the results.
'2. Create custom versions of the AI chatbot, ChatGPT, that will be used by students in the workshops to help students enhance their understanding and skills with the course concepts. This includes creating the GPT.
'3. Prepare to deliver and deliver the workshops to students synchronously online using instruction, demonstration, experiential learning, directed discussion, and feedback.
'4.Work with a teaching assistant to effectively deliver the workshops and support students.
5. Create and implement a plan to collect data for measuring the effectiveness of the workshops and GPTs and for student grading.
'6. Employ the principles of teaching and learning in each of the above activities.
7. Collaborate with the course professor in each of the above activities, to evaluate learning achievement, and to identify improvement opportunities.
Qualifications
At least 10 years of professional experience in product management and/or product marketing in technology businesses, bringing examples from their industry to the course.
Hands-on skills in the front-end of new product development particularly with identifying and defining customer/user problems to solve, solution conceptualization, value proposition design, and business case.
Experience in a teaching role, such as a teaching assistant, or guest lecturer, is preferred.
Experience with running synchronous online group meetings, workshops or discussions in a professional or academic environment.
Motivated to learn and use the principles of teaching and learning in performing this work.
Hands-on knowledge and skills with using ChatGPT to build custom GPTs and with using other GenAI tools for product and marketing applications.
Master’s degree in Product Management, Innovation Management, or an MBA is required. A technical undergraduate degree or equivalent experience is desired.
