Manager, Data Engineering

Department: Product Architecture

Reports to: Director, Data Engineering

The Manager, Data Engineering is charged with overseeing the deliverables of one or more agile data engineering teams. The incumbent will act as a technical leader to the team – leading and mentoring by example. The Manager, Data Engineering will ensure the team’s timely delivery of features and fixes and will support the business by ensuring that the team delivers to the standards set. This role reports to the Director, Data Engineering within the Data Services group. 

Responsibilities:

  • Gather requirements; lead team to compile data; prepare and analyze results; distribute reports 
  • Act as primary contact and escalation point for developers, product managers, and business analysts working to understand data needs 
  • Drive team to deliver quality solutions that combine data from a variety of sources for use in reporting, research, and support decision-making 
  • Working with the Scrum Master, Business Analyst and Product Owner, triage and manage issues that are brought to the team 
  • Ensure the success and growth of direct reports 
  • Provide clear communication to leaders about team successes and issues using information backed by data 

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a technical field, Computer Science, Mathematics or relevant work experience
  • Proven ability to drive deadlines, see projects to completion, deliver valuable assets 
  • Responsive to client priorities; flexible and ability to work under pressure 
  • Modern architecture experience with the following tech stack: Amazon Web Services (AWS), Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, Managed Airflow, Database Migration Service (DMS)
  • Strong SQL development skills, including SQL query writing, performance tuning, and understanding of multiple SQL variants (e.g. MSSQL, PostgreSQL) 
  • Experience with visualization tools is a plus (e.g. Power BI, Tableau, Sisense) 
  • Fluency in at least one OOP language (Python preferred) 
  • Strong understanding of data warehousing design concepts and data modeling 
  • Strong understanding of custom ETL design, implementation, and maintenance 
  • Experience with data pipeline design, development, and maintenance 
  • Strong experience with data integration tools (e.g. SSIS, Streamsets, Informatica) 
  • Experience in data analysis to help identify deliverables, gaps, and inconsistencies 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills  
  • Team player with a positive attitude and energy  
  • A collaborative mindset 
  • Ability to learn as you go
