The Plan, Design, and Architecture Unit within Enterprise Infrastructure Services - Service Management is seeking an IT Network Architect to lead the planning and design of network infrastructure solutions supporting Generative AI, Research, and clinical practice. This position will specialize in providing network solutions in support of on-premise Linux solutions and cloud-based technologies, enabling cutting-edge Generative AI (GenAI) and High-Performance Computing (HPC) capabilities. The architect will define the architectural roadmap for our next-generation network infrastructure and cloud environments, aligning with Mayo Clinic's strategic goals and research initiatives, with a focus on supporting Gen AI/LLM and HPC workloads. This includes designing and implementing high-performance network architectures for GenAI and HPC workloads, ensuring optimal performance and security. The role also involves collaborating with cloud and infrastructure teams to integrate network solutions with cloud networking services, developing and implementing network automation strategies for efficient provisioning, configuration, and management, and monitoring network performance, troubleshooting issues, and evaluating new networking technologies to meet evolving needs. 

This critical role involves strategic planning, network design, and technical leadership, ensuring the network infrastructure is scalable, efficient, robust, and secure. The ideal candidate will possess a deep understanding of Linux server administration, network technologies, cloud computing principles, and architectural frameworks, with a proven ability to translate complex requirements into innovative network solutions. The architect will design scalable and resilient network solutions for high-performance GPU clusters and HPC environments, optimizing for GenAI model training and execution. They will also develop architectural blueprints for network design, processing, access, and cloud deployment, ensuring optimal performance, scalability, resource utilization, and security. 

Authorization to work and remain in the United States, without necessity for Mayo Clinic sponsorships now, or in the future (for example, be a U.S. Citizen, national, or permanent resident, refugee, or asylee). Mayo Clinic does not participate in the F-1 STEM OPT extension program. 

This position requires a Bachelor’s degree plus 5 years of demonstrated technical experience and 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience or an Associate’s degree plus 7 years of demonstrated technical experience and 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience. A high school diploma and 9 years of demonstrated IT technical experience focused on proficiency in managing operating systems, including configuration, internals, and maintenance processes in a large, complex organization like Mayo Clinic plus 1 year of demonstrated leadership experience may be considered in lieu of the degree.Experience working in healthcare technology. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in relevant technical discipline.
Advanced level experience in managing both custom developed and vendor-supplied applications necessary.
Qualified candidates should have demonstrated proficiency in managing operating systems, including configuration, internals, and maintenance processes, and be able to share those proficiencies with others.
Experience with SAN, NAS, and virtualized storage environments and server consolidations and virtualization also helpful. Experience in system hardware design, ordering, configuration, testing and implementation of large/complex projects. Mastery level expertise in one or more computing technologies. Demonstrated understanding of the principles of Systems Analysis and Design. Advanced level experience with large scale Project Management. Excellent interpersonal, communication, organizational skills, problem solving skills, facilitation skills and the ability to interact with all levels of personnel within the organization and across multiple sites. Proficient verbal and written communication skills using English.

The ideal candidate will have demonstrated experience with the following:   

  • Network design, implementation, and troubleshooting in large-scale environments. 
  • Networking protocols (TCP/IP, Ethernet, InfiniBand, RDMA) and network virtualization technologies (SDN, NFV). 
  • Network security principles and best practices. 
  • Cloud networking services (AWS Direct Connect, Azure ExpressRoute, GCP Cloud Interconnect). 
  • Network automation tools and scripting languages (Ansible, Python). 
  • Linux server administration, deep learning frameworks, AI/ML software, HPC environments, and cloud computing frameworks, with relevant certifications (GCP/Azure).
